Always Keep a Cool Head

This material world, that we are currently living in, is the world of dualities. Therefore we are constantly being bounced back and forth between pleasant and unpleasant situations. The key to liberation from this world of dualities is to tolerate them without being disturbed. In other words, we have to be transcendentally situated beyond these dualities by always keeping a cool head in all circumstances. This is achieved by always remembering Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Question: Are We In the Material World for Infinite Lifetimes?

I am writing in response to your most recent Thought for the Day dated Thursday 28 January 2016. We are from Vaikuntha, but because of our misuse of independence we are appearing in the material world, as you said, "He is already in the material world." Since Krishna says that there was never a time when any of us didn't exist, what this implies is that we have been here an infinite number of lifetimes. So how to understand this? Is it that time is an illusion and that all my lifetimes are going on in the present, but due to a contaminated consciousness I can't remember any of them? I am a little confused, and I know that some topics are inconceivable, but if you could shed maybe a little more light on this, or maybe just share your thoughts on this, I would be most grateful.

Answer: Conditioned Only for a Brief Second

Just like when one is having a nightmare what is actually only a second seems like an eternity, when we regain our original natural pure state of Krishna consciousness and thus go back to home, back to Godhead, what seemed to be a nightmarish eternity of suffering in the material world will be seen as only a brief second when we momentarily foolishly imagined that we are the center of existence instead of Krishna.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments.
