Question: Why 16 Rounds Instead of Chanting Once a Day?

I find it very difficult to understand why it is that important to chant 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra on japa mala beads. Why it is not sufficient to chant once a day with full meditation on Krshna? Also, does it have to be a special kind of beads? I know Krishna says in the Gita, "patram pushpam toyam" that if you offer flower or leaf or water with faith and love, I will accept it. Please help me understand the meaning.

Answer: We Are Not Yet Capable of Full Absorption in Krishna

Because we are not capable of fully absorbing ourselves in Krishna once a today, therefore we require to chant at least 16 rounds of Hare Krishna japa mala every day to gradually train ourselves how to fix our minds fully on Lord Shri Krishna. Because the tulasi plant is very, very dear to Krishna it is recommended to chant Hare Krishna japa on sacred tulasi beads.

Krishna is very pleased to accept our offering of foodstuffs from the category of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and grains if we offer them to Him with love and devotion.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee.
