Mundane Morality vs. Spiritual Morality I wrote for yesterday's Thought for the Day No More Mr. Nice Guy. Today I realized that Arjuna is the perfect example of this. He was thinking to be a nice guy by not killing his relatives. Bu then after hearing the Bhagavad-gita from the lotus mouth of Lord Sri Krishna he realized that instead he should kill hi relatives on the order of Lord Sri Krishna. In other words he realized that spiritual morality takes precedence over mundane morality. This is a lesson that we all need to learn. Because of this we sometimes compromise our principles of Krishna consciousness in order to not be a disturbance to those with whom we associate. But this a big self-destructive mistake. In all times, places, and circumstances we must always think, speak, and act in accordance with what is beneficial for our Krishna consciousness and avoid thinking, speaking, and acting in a way that is detrimental for our Krishna consciousness. If the devotees at the temple that was recently destroyed by burning by Muslims in Bangladesh had used guns to protect the temple by shooting the terrorists, this could have easily sparked off massive killing of Hindus by Muslims all over Bangladesh. Even though the devotees according to moral principles had every right to do this, if some of the terrorists had been shot the Muslims would take this as a green light to now kill Hindus all over Bangladesh, burn their homes and rape their women. The incident is part of a broader wave of violence targeting Hindu temples across the country. ISKCON spokesperson Yudhistir Govinda Das confirmed that the temple, along with the deities of Lord Jagannath, Baladev, and Subhadra Devi, was destroyed. Fortunately, the three devotees residing in the center managed to escape unharmed. Our scriptures say that we should be more tolerant than a tree. One time, while Prabhupāda was eating jackfruit, he joked about the taste of jackfruit. A man in a foreign land tried to describe jackfruit to a friend, but he confessed that there was no way to describe it unless you tasted it. When the friend insisted on some verbal description, the man replied that if you were to drink sugarcane juice through a Muslim’s beard, then you might understand the taste of the jackfruit.
