Can I Choose My Rasa?

Some devotees have the idea that we can choose what kind of relationship (rasa) we want to have with Krishna such as a cow, a peacock, a cowherd boyfriend, a parent or a gopi girlfriend and then meditate on that relationship and in order to develop that relationship. But this is sahajiyaism, taking the process of Krishna consciousness very cheaply. Regarding what particular relationship each and every one of us has in our original identity in the spiritual world Srila Prabhupada has written as follows in a letter from San Francisco on 21 March 1967 to his disciple Satsvarupa das: "Regarding your question about the inhabitants of Vrajabhumi or Vrindaban it is to be understood that Vrindaban is the original abode of Lord Krishna as He is the original Personality of Godhead. In that transcendental plane He has His transcendental associates in different exchange of humor. For ourselves when we are in perfect stage of devotional service, we can know our eternal relation with Krishna and as such one of the associates of Lord Krishna becomes our ideal leader. This acceptance of leadership by one of the eternal associates of the Lord is not artificial. Do not therefore try it at present it will be automatically revealed to you in proper time." Srila Prabhupada has clearly instructed that in our present neophyte stage we should not try to realize what is our particular rasa or relationship with Krishna. We should simply focus on becoming Krishna's pure devotees, fully surrendered to Him with our every thought, word, and deed in all times, places, and circumstances. Then in due course of time when we reach the perfectional platform of pure love of God our rasa will be automatically revealed to us without any extra endeavor required to realize it. Thus I was shocked when I read that even though Srila Prabhupada told us "Everything you need to know to become fully Kṛṣṇa conscious is in my books." and even though it is stated in the Caitanya Caritamrita, "jīvera 'svarūpa' haya-kṛṣṇera 'nitya-dāsa' " that every living entity is constituationally the servant of Krishna, one of my prominent Godbrothers considered Srila Prabhupada to be wrong by insisting that knowing himself to be Krishna's servant was not enough. Even in his conditioned state of consciousness before he become fully awakened in pure devotion he demanded that he had to know what is is rasa with Krishna. This is not pure, unconditional devotional service. It is conditional devotional service. How can we become qualified to become pure devotees fully awakened in our original rasa, our relationship with Krishna if we think that Srila Prabhupada is wrong? It is not possible.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
