All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
It is not that God is unkind. It is we who unkind to ourselves by not absorbing ourselves in our natural constitutional position in the Lord's spiritual energy. We suffer so many calamities because we keep ourselves unnaturally in the Lord's material energy instead of embracing a life full of bliss in the Lord's spiritual energy.
If a fish foolishly tries to enjoy life by coming to the dry land, is that God's unkindness or the fish's foolishness? Try to understand that Krishna is giving us full facility to enjoy unlimited peace and happiness at every moment. But we are stubbornly holding onto our so called independence and thus foolishly keeping ourselves in a miserable situation caught up in the net of karma.
I hope this meets you in the best of health.
