Blessed by Devotee Association

Now we are blessed by a stopover at ISKCON Los Angeles--New Dvaraka. Formerly this was the world headquarters of ISKCON before the development of our Mayapur project in India. Srila Prabhupada spent a lot of time here. I was also blessed with the extra special mercy of Srila Prabhupada's association here, which is detailed below in "Video for the Day." Just to be here is a very exhilarating and enlivening. This place is indeed a dhama, a sacred abode. Simply by being in this place in the mood of pilgrim one can get the awakening of love of God within his heart.

Question: Was Sankaracharya a Bogus Incarnation?

Hare Krishna Gurudeva,
Please accept my humble obeisances.

You mentioned in your answer to the question of 9 January 2017 that God's teachings are always the same, and it is bogus incarnations that create confusion. So what about Sankaracharya who was an incarnation of lord Shiva. He gave rise to the impersonal philosophy which has afflicted so many people around the world that they are God or can be one with God thus creating tremendous confusion about whether God is a person or not . So was he a bogus incarnation ?

Answer: He Appeared on Krishna's Order to Defeat Buddhism

Sankaracharya is not a bogus incarnation because He never claimed to be God. He was Lord Shiva who appeared on the order of Krishna disguised as a learned brahmana for the purpose of defeating Buddhism, which had become the religion of India at that time, and re-establishing Vedic culture in India. To do so he taught a philosophy that was halfway between Buddhism and Vaisnavism. He was paving the way on the order of the Lord for the appearance of Vaisnava acharyas who would fully re-establish Vaisnava culture in India. However at the end of his life he taught pure Vaisnavism:

bhaja govindaṁ bhaja govindaṁ
bhaja govindam mūḍha-mate
samprāpte sannihite kāle
na hi na hi rakṣati ḍukṛñ-karaṇe

"You intellectual fools, just worship Govinda, just worship Govinda, just worship Govinda. Your grammatical knowledge and word jugglery will not save you at the time of death."
