Is It Bad to Feel Guilty?

Sometimes we hear neophyte devotees argue that it is not good to feel guilty, lamenting if one somehow or other falls down and breaks the principles of Krishna consciousness. But according to Srila Prabhupada this is not at all true. In his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam 6.2.27 he explains as follows:

"This is the mentality of one who is becoming a pure devotee. When one is elevated to the platform of devotional service by the grace of the Lord and the spiritual master, one first regrets his past sinful activities. This helps one advance in spiritual life. The Visnudutas had given Ajamila the chance to become a pure devotee, and the duty of a pure devotee is to regret his past sinful activities in illicit sex, intoxication, meat-eating and gambling. Not only should one give up his past bad habits, but he must always regret his past sinful acts. This is the standard of pure devotion."

If we truly lament for whatever deviations we have made from the principles of Krishna consciousness at any time in our lives, this will protect us from ever deviating again.

Question: What's Wrong in Having Sex With My Husband?

I have been in the modes of Ignorance and passion for a very long time now. So I don't understand what is the mode of goodness. Hence transcending these three modes and experiencing a higher taste is beyond my imagination. Thus I feel less ecstasy and enthusiasm while chaining. What to do?

Also, I don't understand scientifically what's wrong in having sex with my husband.

How to get attracted to the teachings of Lord Caitanya and more?

Answer: Sex Is For Procreation, Not Recreation

Feeling less ecstasy in chanting is due to carelessness in chanting and/or carelessness in following the regulated principles of Krishna consciousness. So if you will focus now on more carefully chanting and more carefully following all the rules and regulations of bhakti yoga, you will experience a wonderful awakening of divine ecstasy within your heart, an inconceivable bliss that is millions of times greater than anything that you can so-called enjoy in this material world.

Having sex with your husband is certainly allowed for producing saintly children. However having sex other than for procreation, is strictly prohibited. This regulation of freedom is a wonderful blessing from Krishna to help us get out of the bodily conception that I am a male or a female. Sex desire is the most powerful and entangling of material desires. It keeps tightly bound up in the cycle of birth and death. Therefore we must minimize sex as much as possible, only utilizing it for procreation, in order to become qualified for going back home, back to Godhead.

In this connection Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in his purport to Bhagavad-gita
16:1-3:

"Although he has a wife, a householder should not use his senses for sex life unnecessarily. There are restrictions for the householders even in sex life, which should only be engaged in for the propagation of children. If he does not require children, he should not enjoy sex life with his wife. Modern society enjoys sex life with contraceptive methods or more abominable methods to avoid the responsibility of children. This is not in the transcendental quality, but is demoniac. If anyone, even if he is a householder, wants to make progress in spiritual life, he must control his sex life and should not beget a child without the purpose of serving Krishna. If he is able to beget children who will be in Krishna consciousness, one can produce hundreds of children, but without this capacity one should not indulge only for sense pleasure.”

The very simple and sublime way to become more and more attracted to the teachings of Lord Caitanya is to absorb yourself as much as possible 24 hours a day in hearing about, talking about, and thinking about the wonderful name, fame, form, qualities, teachings, and pastimes of Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
