Upgrading Your Consciousness

When we take birth in this material world we have a default psychological operating system known as material consciousness. While this operating system is adequate for pursuing the material goals of eating, sleeping, and defending, it's clearly an inferior grade operating system that is not adequate for giving complete peace, happiness and satisfaction to the living being who resides within the material body. For that an upgrade of consciousness is required to Krishna consciousness. This upgrade requires the guidance of an expert technician, who is known as the bona fide spiritual master. The bona fide guru or spiritual master is a highly trained technician who knows very well all the challenges and difficulties that we may face during a consciousness upgrade. He is competent to train you how to easily surmount them. The bona fide spiritual master does not require any money for his valuable service. He guides our upgrade of consciousness out of love because he understands fully well how miserable it is to remain stuck in material consciousness. While being upgraded to Krishna consciousness we must put full faith his guru because every frame of reference that one has while in material consciousness is now being upgraded and replaced with a new frame of reference. The end result of one who takes the upgrade to Krishna consciousness is a fearless eternal existence of never-ending, ever-expanding pure spiritual bliss and knowledge. Is the upgrade worth it? We encourage you to give a try and see for yourself. If you don't like it, you can easily go back to your original state of material consciousness. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. So why not give it a whirl and see what it is like?

Question: How To Understand the Form of Jagannatha?

I can comfortably pray to Sri Sri Gaur Nitai, Srila Prabhupada, and Radha Krishna deities because of their human forms. But Lord Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra look too far out, not like humans. I can't even humanize their look. So how should I see them so that I can feel they are worshipable?

Answer: He's Krishna Experiencing Ecstatic Symptoms

Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra are the same Krishna and Balarama and Krishna’s younger sister. Their specific forms were manifested in a pastime at Kurukshetra when they their bodies manifested transcendental symptoms while they were hearing about Krishna’s Vrindavan Lila as narrated by Rohini.

The Utkala-khanda of the Skanda Purana describes how this happened: Once, during a solar eclipse, Krishna, Balarama, Subhadra, and other residents of Dvaraka went to bathe in a holy pond at Kurukshetra. Knowing that Krishna would be there, Srimati Radharani, Krishna’s parents Nanda and Yasoda, and other residents of Vrindavana, who were burning in the fire of separation from the Lord, went to meet Him. Inside one of the many tents the pilgrims had set up at Kurukshetra, Rohini, Lord Balarama’s mother, narrated Krishna’s Vrindavana pastimes to the queens of Dvaraka and others.

The residents of Dvaraka are in the mood of opulence (aishvarya), and they worship Krishna as the Supreme Lord. But the residents of Vrindavana are in the mood of sweetness (madhurya), and they have a confidential relationship with Krishna that surpasses awe and reverence because it is based on friendship and love. Rohini’s narration was thus extremely confidential, so she posted Subhadra at the door to prevent anyone from entering.

Krishna and Balarama came to the door and stood on Subhadra’s left and right sides. While listening to Rohini’s narration of Krishna’s intimate Vrindavana pastimes, Krishna and Balarama became ecstatic, and Their internal feelings were exhibited externally. Their eyes became dilated, Their heads compressed into Their bodies, and Their limbs retracted. Seeing these transformations in Krishna and Balarama, Subhadra also became ecstatic and assumed a similar form. Thus, by hearing about Krishna’s pastimes in Vrindavana, Krishna and Balarama, with Subhadra in between, displayed their ecstatic forms of Jagannatha, Baladeva, and Subhadra.
