For Whom Should We Desire Recognition?
In this material world everyone is seeking recognition. People mistakenly think that the more they become recognized, the more they will become happy. The reality is that the so-called recognized people of this material are actually quite miserable. In 1970 I attended a function in Austin, Texas which was also attended by a famous singer named Janis Joplin. When representatives of the media approached her for an interview she was so disturbed that she pathetically pleaded with them, "Please have mercy," begging them to leave her alone. She died shortly after that due to a drug overdose.
The real secret of happiness is to give all recognition to Krishna, the person who is the source of everything and the cause of all causes. We don't need to seek recognition for ourselves. A person who dedicates his life fully for spreading the glories of Krishna all over the world will automatically be the most glorified and recognized person in the human history even without seeking recognition for himself. So instead of desiring recognition for ourselves we should desire that everyone recognizes Krishna. This will bring us eternally lasting, ever-increasing happiness.
