Think, Speak, and Act Outside of the Box
If you want to become a liberated soul, you have to learn how to think, speak, and act outside of the box. In other words, don't blindly cling to the stereotypical patterns of thinking, speaking, and acting that you are habituated to. When you take to Krishna consciousness everything is on the table for being introspectively examined. Whatever about your life is favorable for Krishna consciousness, should be accepted. And whatever is not favorable for your Krishna consciousness should be rejected. From now on this should be the only guiding principle of your life.

Question: What is Maya?
Dear Srila Gurudeva,According to ISKCON teachings maya means illusion. But yesterday I read regarding Krishna's spiritual energy and material energy, that the spiritual energy is called yogamaya and the material energy is called mahamaya. I thought both the energies are maya (illusion). Could you please clarify this?
Thank you,
Hare Krishna,
Radha Ramana
Answer: Maya Means Illusion or Energy
Both things that you read are correct. Maya does mean illusion. But it also means energy. So when we use the term maya by itself, we mean illusion. And when we use the word maya in conjunction with the prefix "maha" or "yoga", mahamaya means material energy and yogamaya means spiritual energy. Since the material energy puts us into illusion, mahamaya and maya are the same. The term yogamaya is just the opposite. Yogamaya frees use from the influence of maya or mahamaya.I hope this makes it crystal clear for your understanding.
