Sankirtana Heroes on a Combat/Rescue Mission

On Saturday 9 August 2015 a crew of sankirtana heroes joined me and my wife, Vishnupriya Devi Dasi, on a combat/rescue mission in the heart of Austin, Texas. Our mission given by Lord Caitanya and Srila Prabhupada was to combat the ignorance which has captured the human civilization and to rescue Maya's prisoners by the power of the Hare Krishna mantra and transcendental literatures. My stalwart transcendental companion and wife was the organizer/facilitator of this combat/rescue mission. The sankirtana heroes who joined us were Vraja Kishore Das, Abhay Charan Das, Chakravarti, Ritesh, Mamta, Kirtan, Govinda, and Gayatri. We went to an area of town which has a constant flow of people walking up down the sidewalk so that we could bless as many people as possible with the liberating sound of the Hare Krishna mantra and the opportunity to purchase Srila Prabhupada's books. Books were sold and many people got the blessings of hearing Krishna's holy name.

If you want to taste the sweetest nectar of your entire life join your local Harinam combat/rescue mission as soon as possible and as often as possible.

Question: Try to Convince Others About Krishna Consciousness?

In a recent "Thought for the Day" you have advised us to remind others about Krishna or to introduce them to Krishna. However usually the people I meet are non-believers or followers of other sects of Hinduism. Should I still try to convince them about Krishna consciousness? Aren't we supposed to not associate with non-devotees?

Most of the times I just ask other Hindus to visit a nearby ISKCON temple and tell them about how beautifully the deities are dressed there and about the tasty prasadam and the ecstatic kirtans. If someone asks me about the Bhagavad-gita I refer them to Bhagavad-gita As It Is.

By asking them to visit ISKCON or to read Bhagavad-gita As It Is (some times I personally take them with me to temple) I just hope the rest is taken care by Lord Krishna Himself. Because if I start explaining them about Krishna, these people get into arguments with me, which I now try to avoid.

My second question is should I avoid arguments on Krishna consciousness with non-devotees or should I argue for Krishna's sake and defeat their incorrect philosophies?

Answer: Try to Convince the Entire World

The principle of not associating with non-devotees means that you should not take their association. It means that instead you should give them your Krishna conscious association. Since Lord Caitanya has ordered us to instruct everyone we meet in the teachings of Krishna, we must always be giving Krishna conscious association to everyone we meet. In short, you should try to convince the entire world about Krishna consciousness.

You should become so expert in our philosophy that you can defeat all opposing arguments in such a sweet, powerful, compassionate and logical way that you can convince even an atheist that there is God. This requires that you are reading Srila Prabhupada’s books and attending Krishna conscious lectures as much as possible, as well as preaching the message of Krishna to those who are forgetful of Him whenever you get the chance, and listening to how expert preachers convince the non-devotees of the truths of Krishna's teachings as much as possible.
