Conquering Inevitable Death

Death is coming to each and every one of us, and we can't avoid it by any means. It does not matter how much wealth, power, and fame we may have. It does not matter if we are surrounded by loving friends and relatives. When our time has come to leave the body, we must do so. But if one can awaken his identity as Krishna's eternal servant, he has already defeated death. He has already entered into immortality. For such an enlightened soul death is nothing more than serving Krishna in one room and then moving into another room to have even better facility to serve Him there.

Question: How Can a Devotee Survive at His Job?

My humble obeisances to Guru and Gurumata.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Dear Gurudeva,

Srila Prabhupada's purport to Bhagavad-gita:18.26 says:

"A person in Krishna consciousness is always transcendental to the material modes of nature. He has no expectations for the result of the work entrusted to him, because he is above false ego and pride. Still, he is always enthusiastic till the completion of such work. He does not worry about the distress undertaken; he is always enthusiastic. He does not care for success or failure; he is equal in both distress and happiness. Such a worker is situated in the mode of goodness."

Then, in the context of employment, as an employee, how does a person in mode of goodness if he is not concerned for success or failure, satisfy an employer? How will an employed person in mode of goodness survive in any job?

Answer: A Devotee Not Only Survives; He Thrives

While a devotee being situated in goodness is transcendental to his own personal success and failure seeing either of them as the mercy of the Lord, at the same time he is completely dedicated to making the Krishna consciousness movement a grand success on this planet as soon as possible. A fully Krishna conscious devotee therefore offers the results of his employment in the service of the Lord’ mission and thus is the most competitive and aggressive person for the sake of the Lord’s mission. This is why the devotee not only survives, but instead thrives in his material dealings for the sake of spreading the Krishna consciousness movement all over the world, like Hanuman and Arjuna.

One of our members, who was applying for a job, put down on his resume that he was a member of the Krishna consciousness movement, which has the goal of world domination. The employer liked this sort of aggressive attitude and immediately gave him a high paying job.
