How to Become Fearless and Flawless

Krishna consciousness is so transcendentally sweet that it can be relished in any and all circumstances: the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. In all times, places, and circumstances if one simply remembers the resplendent, all-merciful, lotus-eyed Supreme Personality of Godhead, he will be fearless, flawless, full of bliss, full of knowledge, and perfectly situated in equanimity tasting his eternal spiritual identity as a spirit-soul servitor of the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna beyond the cycle of birth and death.

Question: Can Sex Urge Be Conquered by Our Own Strength?

My question is as fallen conditioned souls can we give up sex desire (illicit sex) by our own endeavor, or do we need the mercy of a guru and the mercy of Krishna?

Your humble servant,

Jay

Answer: Mercy of Guru and Krishna is Required

The great Vaishnava acharya, Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakur has answered your question. He has written:

yasya prasādād bhagavat-prasādo
yasyāprasādān na gatiḥ kuto 'pi

"By the mercy of the spiritual master one receives the benediction of Krishna. Without the grace of the spiritual master, one cannot make any advancement."

By our strength we may temporarily conquer over our senses. But without the blessings of a bona fide spiritual master, which give us Krishna's benedictions, we cannot get the higher taste of Krishna bhakti, which empowers us to automatically give up the lower taste of material sense gratification. We will thus be subject to falling down at any time, just as the great yogi Visvamrita Muni fell down from his position of great yogic power simply by hearing the tinkling of the ankle bells of the beautiful celestial maiden, Menaka.
