Tolerate All the Dualities of Material Existence

In the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 2, Text 14 Lord Sri Krishna mercifully instructs us to tolerate all the dualities of material existence:

mātrā-sparśās tu kaunteya
śītoṣṇa-sukha-duḥkha-dāḥ
āgamāpāyino 'nityās
tāṁs titikṣasva bhārata

"O son of Kuntī, the nonpermanent appearance of happiness and distress, and their disappearance in due course, are like the appearance and disappearance of winter and summer seasons. They arise from sense perception, O scion of Bharata, and one must learn to tolerate them without being disturbed."

This means that we should not base our happiness on the material situation that we find ourselves in because to do so guarantees that we will be unhappy. We should instead base our happiness on having a loving relationship with Lord Sri Krishna and His devotees. In this way we will able to weather all of the storms of this material existence and be fully qualified to enter into the spiritual world at the time of our deaths.

Question: Should We Aspire for Liberation?

Hare Krishna Srila Guruji Maharaj,
Please accept my humble obeisances,

In the Srimad Bhagavatam and also in the Srimad Bhagavad-gita I have noticed many times that Srila Prabhupada has mentioned about various types of liberation desires a devote can have, all those are mentioned below:

1.
Sarsti: achieving opulences equal to that of the Lord.
Sarupya: having a form like that of the Lord. (Residents of the Vaikuntha planet have four handed form like Lord Vishnu.)
Samipya: living as a personal associate of the Lord.
Salokya: living on a Vaikuṇṭha planet.
Sayujya: Merging into the Brahman feature of the Lord.

However pure devotees (who are following Bhakti Yoga, the best one) of the Lord do not even want liberation. For them hell or heaven or even the spiritual world is same. They remain so absorbed in serving and remembering the Lord that they never think of their own life and desire. Their love for Lord is so great that even Krishna finds it difficult to understand it; in fact Krishna completely surrenders to them.

But on the contrary, in all your spiritual emails like below one, you always say:
2.
"you are not a creature of this material world. You are one of the inhabitants of the spiritual world. Krishna has come to invite us back to His eternal abode. In acceptance of His invitation, that's where we are heading. And we invite you to come with us on our journey back to our original home. There is no reason at all to remain here suffering in this disgusting material world, which is not a fit place for a gentleman's residence"

So now from above (1) and (2) which are contradictory, what is the final conclusion? please advise.

Thanks,
Hare Krishna
With Best Regards,

Answer: Back to Godhead Desire is Good

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Saurabh,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Attaining the liberation of going back to home, back to Godhead is a great encouragement for the neophytes to fully absorb themselves in Krishna consciousness. This is in #1.

But in #2, those who are 100% pure devotees who are qualified to see Krishna face to face, eye to eye are already situated beyond liberation even while here in this material world. They are in direct contact with Krishna at every moment even while here in this material world because of their pure love for Him.

For them #1 is not required because they are already beyond it. But those, like us, who are not on the #2 level get great encouragement from the prospect of qualifying ourselves for #1, going back to home, back to Godhead. This is so important for us that Srila Prabhupada named his magazine "Back to Godhead."

I hope this meets you in the best of health.

Your ever well-wisher,
