Sex is for Procreation, Not for Recreation

Sex is for Procreation, Not for Recreation
Due to bodily misidentification in the modern day so-called civilization everyone takes sex as the greatest pleasure. But this is sheer animalism. It is not actual human life. Nature has made sex so pleasurable because if it were not so, nobody would procreate. The difficulty is that by centering our lives around sex pleasure we are relegating ourselves to take our next birth in the animal kingdom. Those who are actually intelligent utilize sex only for its God given purpose, procreation. And they get their recreation from chanting the holy names of God, which is thousands and millions of times more relishable than sex. Sex can be enjoyed for a few minutes only while chanting the holy names of God can be relished twenty-four hours a day. Chanting is enchanting. Non-procreational sex is debilitating.

So kindly, my dear readers, utilize sex only for procreation, not for recreation. We should derive our pleasure instead from chanting Hare Krishna. If we do so, our lives will be unlimitedly sublime and at the time of death we will simply go to sleep and wake up with Krishna in the all-blissful eternal spiritual sky. Otherwise if we remain sex mongers, we will get our next birth in the animal kingdom in such a body as hog who enjoys sex without any discrimination, even having sex with his mother, sister or daughter.

Question: When My Husband Wants Illicit Sex?

Dear Srila Gurudeva,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

By reading your daily messages, I noticed many people approach you with a question regarding illicit sex. It seems that they are trying their best to find a breach in this very important regulative principle as a means to have you sanction a way they can have pleasure using their genitals.

I was just thinking if instead of "no illicit sex" - which immediately (and maybe unfortunately only) brings to our minds a relationship outside marriage life, the principle would have been better clarified "No stimulation of genitals and sex only for procreation". I wonder why didn't Prabhupada establish something more clear - at least the devotees would have been more aware of the weight of that promise before the fire sacrifice. Now many are victims of unstable relationships.

As for me, I am still in the same situation. My husband still hankers for that, (he's into tantra sex, slow and prolonged, he is even proud he never loses semen, he told me when the demigods have sex for sense gratification they don't lose semen), but I still think it is a mere waste of time and I am praying to Krishna so He can help have a healthy life and consciousness. I feel that maybe sex drive in devotees is lack of sravanam, because when I hear I feel the emotions in Krishna Consciousness are much more fulfiling than scratching the itch. Also, I think due to absorption in trying to find fault in others and reading the news one may be prone to gratify one's senses to find some pleasure.

Please guide me further,

Always hankering for your blessings,

Sdd

Answer: Just Say "No"

My Dear Sdd,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada has clearly described this. But rascal so-called devotees do not care about pleasing Srila Prabhupada. They just want to please their genitals and thus instead of going back to Godhead they will enter the animal kingdom in their next lives. If such fools would instead devotedly hear and chant the holy names and the pastimes of our beloved Lord Sri Krishna, they would get a pleasure much greater that stimulating their genitals. If your husband can't live without this nonsense, it is better that he goes to a prostitute than to ruin your spiritual life. So just tell him "no" to this illicit sex. Our principles only allow for sex for procreation once in a month and nothing more.

Here are some of many of Srila Prabhupada's instructions in this regard:

"If sex life is indulged after the period of menstruation, that is also illicit sex."
--Morning Walk -- June 8, 1974, Geneva

"The householders and persons who have deliberately broken the vow of celibacy cannot enter into the kingdom of deathlessness."
—from purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 2, Chapter 6, Text 20

Guest: Well, in this present world I think, you know, sex is not for procreation, it is more for fun. I think ninety-nine percent of the couples who indulge in sex do not think of children at that time.
Prabhupada: But that is sinful.
—from a Room Conversation -- March 2, 1975, Atlanta

"There is law. You cannot have sexual intercourse with wife as you like, no. That is also illicit sex. Then When the woman is in menstrual period, after five days, you can have once. As soon as she is pregnant, no more sexual intercourse. This is human being. Not that like animal."
—from a Morning Walk -- February 17, 1974, Bombay

"Regarding your question: 'What is the correct sexual etiquette for a strict Grhastha; and what is spiritual family planning?'' Unless one wants to beget a child, there should not be any sex life. The best thing is to forget sex, but it is not possible immediately or all of a sudden, especially in the Western countries where sex life is so liberal. So under the circumstances, one should try to have sex life only for children, not for any other purpose."
from a Letter to: Dayananda and Nandarani -- Montreal 24 August, 1968

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a determined mood to say "no" illicit sex.
