Drinking Milk from Unprotected Cows Brings Fall Down

We must convince them not to drink milk from mistreated cows. Any devotee not using genuine ahimsa milk is a hypocrite and is guilty of hurting mother cow. Regardless of their status or position they will fall down.

My Dear Tim,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I applaud your desire that no cows should ever be killed or harmed. These cows are our mothers because they are giving us their breast milk to nourish our brains and bodies. There is no doubt that cow slaughter is the most horrendous crime.

In this connection it is stated in the Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 17, Text 166 as follows:

go-aṅge yata loma, tata sahasra vatsara
go-vadhī raurava-madhye pace nirantara

“Cow-killers are condemned to rot in hellish life for as many thousands of years as there are hairs on the body of the cow."

But I question the practicality of labeling anyone who drinks milk that is coming from an unprotected cow as a hypocrite who will fall down. Srila Prabhupada drank the milk from unprotected cows because that was all that was available. Do you consider him to be a hypocrite who fell down?

Did you ever consider the great benefit gained by the poor cows who are going to be slaughtered of having their milk offered to Krishna? These poor souls have been engaged in devotional service to Lord Sri Krishna and have thus derived unlimited benefit.

You and I are most certainly one in our desire to close the slaughterhouses. They are indeed most demoniac. But the reality is that we have not yet accomplished our goal.

Do you ever consider that by drinking cow's milk which has been offered with love to Lord Sri Krishna that the sincere preacher of Lord Caitanya's movement can get the good health and good intelligence to help him close all of the slaughterhouses? This is why drinking such milk can be called, "Using a thorn to remove a thorn."

My position is that I require to drink cow's milk daily as I have been ordered by spiritual master. As much as possible I use ahimsa milk for this purpose. But when it us not available I use whatever milk is available to offer to Krishna and then drink it to strengthen my health and intelligence.

So do you consider me to be a hypocrite who will fall down?

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
