The Appearance Day of Lord Nrsimhadeva

Today is the appearance of Lord Nrsimhadeva, the half lion, hall man incarnation of God who appeared to protect the devotee Prahlada from the harassment of his demoniac father, Hiranyakasipu. We pray to Lord Nrsimhadeva every day as follows:

namas te narasiṁhāya
prahlādāhlāda-dāyine
hiraṇyakaśipor vakṣaḥ-
śilā-ṭaṅka-nakhālaye

I offer my obeisances to Lord Narasiṁha who gives joy to Prahlāda Mahārāja and whose nails are like chisels on the stonelike chest of the demon Hiraṇyakaśipu.

ito nṛsiṁhaḥ parato nṛsiṁho
yato yato yāmi tato nṛsiṁhaḥ
bahir nṛsiṁho hṛdaye nṛsiṁho
nṛsiṁham ādiṁ śaraṇaṁ prapadye

Lord Nṛsiṁha is here and also there. Wherever I go Lord Nṛsiṁha is there. Let Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva sit in the core of my heart, killing all my bad propensities. Let my mind become clean so that I may peacefully worship the Lord and bring peace to the entire world. I surrender to Lord Nṛsiṁha, the origin of all things and the supreme refuge.

tava kara-kamala-vare nakham adbhuta-śṛṅgaṁ
dalita-hiraṇyakaśipu-tanu-bhṛṅgam
keśava dhṛta-narahari-rūpa jaya jagadīśa hare

O Keśava! O Lord of the universe! O Lord Hari, who have assumed the form of half-man, half-lion! All glories to You! Just as one can easily crush a wasp between one's fingernails, so in the same way the body of the wasplike demon Hiraṇyakaśipu has been ripped apart by the wonderful pointed nails on Your beautiful lotus hands.

Answer: One Must Be Ordered by His Guru

Dear Spiritual Seeker,

To become a spiritual master or an authorized spiritual guide one has to be a disciple of a bona fide spiritual master who has been ordered by his spiritual master to become a spiritual master. Otherwise his becoming a guru is bogus. Unfortunately nowadays people all over the world are being misguided by bogus gurus.

The original spiritual master is God Himself. From Him there are coming down four authorized disciplic lines. In the ancient Vedic wisdom, the Padma Purana, it is stated:

sampradāya-vihīnā ye mantrās te niṣphalā matāḥ:

“If one does not follow the four recognized disciplic successions, his mantra or initiation is useless.”

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
