Supreme Nirvana Video Interview

Jeff Krisman has requested me to do a series of interviews with him, which based on Srila Prabhupada's teachings I have dubbed "The Supreme Nirvana Series." Why did I choose this title? Here is why.

Srila Prabhupada writes as follows in his book The Perfection of Yoga, "By engaging the body, mind, and activities in the service of Krishna, one attains the supreme nirvana which abides in Krishna."

In this connection Srila Prabhupada also writes in his purport to Bhagavad-gita, Chapter Two, Text 72 as follows:

"Nirvana means ending the process of materialistic life. According to Buddhist philosophy, there is only void after the completion of this material life, but Bhagavad-gita teaches differently. Actual life begins after the completion of this material life. For the gross materialist it is sufficient to know that one has to end this materialistic way of life, but for persons who are spiritually advanced, there is another life after this materialistic life. Before ending this life, if one fortunately becomes Krishna conscious, he at once attains the stage of brahma-nirvana. There is no difference between the kingdom of God and the devotional service of the Lord. Since both of them are on the absolute plane, to be engaged in the transcendental loving service of the Lord is to have attained the spiritual kingdom."

Thus the perfectional stage of nirvana is not voidism as the Buddhists proclaim. The real nirvana is to become fully absorbed in loving service to Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Question: How to Think of Our Bodies?

Hare Krishna Gurudeva!

I am Madhav from India, and I am glad to inform that I have begun chanting of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra daily after association with my cousin who introduced me to Haripad Prabhuji in Udupi back in December. It is an blessing to read your daily lessons on mail.

It is said that all our problems, particularly anxieties, are because of over identification of ourselves with our bodies. How can l overcome this worry and anxiety? Should we not take care/think of our bodies/ health at all?

Please guide and bless me

My Dear Madhav,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Just as one's car is not him but he takes good care of it to keep it in good operating condition, similarly the devotee takes good care of his body, even though he knows that is not him, so that it can be used nicely for serving Krishna and achieving the ultimate goal of going back to home, back to Godhead at the time of death when he leaves his body behind.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.
Your ever well-wisher,

Sankarshan Das Adhikari
