Is Krishna Consciousness Dangerous?
Sometimes we hear the philosophy that it is dangerous to get too much into Krishna consciousness because it you make a failure in your material life. Krishna instructs us in the Bhagavad-gita to give up all other duties and simply fully surrender to Him. By doing so will one become neglectful and irresponsible in his family and occupational duties? One may think that anyone who gets too much into Krishna consciousness will not be materially successful, therefore it is better not to get too much into Krishna consciousness, it is best not to bring my children to any Hare Krishna programs so that it does not spoil their future careers.
In this connection it should be carefully noted that one of the qualities of a devotee is daksha, expert. This means that the devotee becomes expert in every aspect of life, including his family and occupational duties. Just like Arjuna, for example, even though a great pure devotee was as a ksatriya, a warrior, by occpation. When it came to executing his occupational duties, in the battle of Kurukshetra, in which 640 millions warriors were killed, only Arjuna and his four devotee brothers survived. Everyone else was killed.
Of course, one may argue that Arjuna and his brothers were an exception, that generally devotees are failures in their material duties. But the Bhagavad-gita in its final verse clearly states:
yatra yogeśvaraḥ kṛṣṇo
yatra pārtho dhanur-dharaḥ
tatra śrīr vijayo bhūtir
dhruvā nītir matir mama
"Wherever there is Kṛṣṇa, the master of all mystics, and wherever there is Arjuna, the supreme archer, there will also certainly be opulence, victory, extraordinary power, and morality. That is my opinion."
This means that anyone who becomes fully Krishna conscious becomes highly moral, powerful, opulent, and victorious. So who is that fool who would not want to become totally absorbed in Krishna consciousness?
