Qualities of a Krishna Conscious Person

Srila Prabhuapda writes in his purport to Bhagavad-gita 2.56 as follows:

"..a fully Krishna conscious person is not at all disturbed by the onslaughts of the threefold miseries, for he accepts all miseries as the mercy of the Lord, thinking himself only worthy of more trouble due to his past misdeeds; and he sees that his miseries, by the grace of the Lord, are minimized to the lowest. Similarly, when he is happy he gives credit to the Lord, thinking himself unworthy of the happiness; he realizes that it is due only to the Lord's grace that he is in such a comfortable condition and able to render better service to the Lord. And, for the service of the Lord, he is always daring and active and is not influenced by attachment or aversion. Attachment means accepting things for one's own sense gratification, and detachment is the absence of such sensual attachment. But one fixed in Krishna consciousness has neither attachment nor detachment because his life is dedicated in the service of the Lord. Consequently he is not at all angry even when his attempts are unsuccessful. Success or no success, a Krishna conscious person is always steady in his determination."

If we will mold our lives according to these most sublime instructions, our lives will be perfect.

Question: Difficulty with Chanting

I am not writing to challenge or to argue, just want to share my experience with chanting.

I no way experience anything what has been mentioned in the daily "Thought of the day," I feel very dull and confused after chanting, even my natural positive qualities are lost after chanting. This is the result of chanting of 2-4 rounds, so 16 rounds will result in more negative results.

If the process is right, what wrong I am doing. Chant and hear is what has been prescribed that's what I am trying to do. What kind of mental adjustments I have to do?

Hare Krishna

V.

Answer: Just As the Sunrise Takes Time

Chanting Hare Krishna first brings you to mode of goodness and from there to the mode of pure goodness. Krishna describes in the Bhagavad-gita that happiness in the mode of goodness is poison in the beginning and nectar at the end. So what you are going through is the early stage of awakening the mode of goodness, which is sometimes bitter.

The key is that you have to put your faith in the process and keep chanting. The best thing is to chant in the early morning hours before sunrise, because this will bring the quickest result. But it will still take time. You have been caught up in the material existence for thousands and millions of lifetimes. It will take time for you to overcome your present nature, which is too much under the influence of the lower modes of nature: passion and ignorance. But if you will faithfully, steadily, and patiently chant the Hare Krishna mantra every day, the dawning of pure Krishna bhakti will gradually fully manifest within you in its inconceivably awesome splendor. Remember that the sun does not rise immediately. It takes time for it to fully manifest on the eastern horizon.
