Krishna Consciousness Means No Problems

For one who is Krishna conscious there is no such thing as a problem because for him every moment, no matter what is happening, is a golden opportunity to go closer and closer to Krishna. For him the dualities of good and bad, happiness and distress, poverty and wealth, sickness and health, etc. are appearances only on the bodily platform because by seeing the constant loving influence of Krishna in every situation he experiences the ultimate beauty at every moment. For such a genuinely spiritually enlightened person there is only one problem: how to deliver all the suffering souls of this material world back to home, back to Godhead. Because he accepts this problem as his life and soul he becomes a most dear associate of the Supreme Personality of Godhead Lord Sri Krishna.

I have been a subscriber to this course since September 2003 and have seen the number of subscribers grow from a few hundred to now over 16,000 subscribers. Also I have seen so many souls being guided by Srila Gurudeva through this course and traveling to meet Gurudeva when he is visiting the nearest city to meet him personally and inquire from him for hours at a time. Coming from a family which has a keen interest in philosophy and spiritual practices I have read many books on different philosophies since my teenager days and have been exposed to them. But this process is the most direct and dynamic, practical to follow while being engaged in the material world, especially the yukta vairagya principle to use everything in service of the Lord for the benefit of mankind.

The "Thought for the Day” Srila Gurudeva is a offering in the service of Srila Prabhupada and the previous Vaisnava acharyas is a source of daily inspiration and realization. It teaches how to handle various situations and gives insightful information and practical solutions to all the sincere seekers who want to go beyond realm of material existence and enquire into deeper truths in life.

Srila Gurudeva answers to some of the most complex questions in simple ways. The warmth and depth of the answers makes one inspired to tread the path of self-realization and clears the doubts which one encounters on this path. Also his website, www.ultimateselfrealization.com, contains hundreds of lectures and seminars which one can explore to dive deeper into this subject matter, which I appeal to everyone to explore.

My humble appeal to all the new subscribers is to actually try this course for a few months, apply in their daily lives, observe and introspect the changes that come in their lives make their life successful and glorious.

Question: Is Guru Required After Initiation?

Thanks for your daily newsletter with its inspirational message and questions and answers. In one of answers, you mentioned, "Access to the full nectar of holy name is attained by taking shelter the bona fide spiritual master because it is only by grace of the spiritual master that one can advance to the stage of experiencing the full taste of Krishna's most glorious holy name."

I had an understanding that the spiritual master gives us the seed of devotional service at the time of initiation and then it is solely up to us to cultivate our devotional service by hearing and chanting the glories of the Lord. Thus there is no more need for the spiritual master in our life. The spiritual master gives us the books and knowledge and the holy name at the time initiation and then we are on our own in developing and cultivating Krishna consciousness. Is this right?

Thanks for your time and making yourself available to us.

Thank you

Answer: We Must Eternally Serve and Please Our Spiritual Master

If the books, knowledge, and the holy name are sufficient, why are you writing to me for clarification? The sastras tell us that after initiation we must continue developing and perfecting our relationship as the humble servants of our spiritual master. If we fail to please our guru by not remaining obedient to his instructions, we fall down from the path of devotional service back into material existence. Therefore it is enjoined that at least three times a day we must offer our respectful obeisances to our spiritual master. Constant devotion to the spiritual master is so essential that Krishna instructs Arjuna in the Adi Purana that unless one is the devotee of His devotee he is not Krishna's devotee. Therefore loving devotional service to the spiritual master cannot be abandoned at any stage. Our relationship with Krishna is absolutely dependent on it. Even in the spiritual world the disciple remains the eternal servant of his spiritual master.
