Everyone Is Looking for Krishna

Thought for Day--5 April 2026

We find this in Srila Prabhupada's book Beyond Birth and Death:

All feelings of distress and happiness are due to the body. Under certain conditions the body and mind feel happiness and distress. Factually we are hankering after happiness, for the soul's constitutional position is that of happiness. The soul is part and parcel of the Supreme Being, who is sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ [Bs. 5.1]—the embodiment of knowledge, bliss, and eternity. Indeed, the very name Kṛṣṇa, which is nonsectarian, means "the greatest pleasure." Kṛṣ means "greatest," and ṇa means "pleasure." Kṛṣṇa is the epitome of pleasure, and being part and parcel of Him, we hanker for pleasure. A drop of ocean water has all the properties of the ocean itself, and we, although minute particles of the Supreme Whole, have the same energetic properties as the Supreme.

Everybody is looking for the greatest pleasure. Therefore, whether they know it or not, everyone is looking for Krishna. The difficulty is that due to miseducation they are looking for Krishna in the realm of sense gratification, in which we experience nothing but misery, although it sometimes masquerades as happiness.

Hare Krishna,

It is said that we are not supposed to have ego. So why do I have the ego of being myself, the self? Why can I not think that I am me, and that all this devotional activity which I am doing is actually being done by me, and thus get rid of false ego?

All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Ego means identity, so you must necessarily have ego. Your real ego, your real identity is that you are an eternal spiritual being who is the eternal servant of Krishna. What must be given up is false ego—the illusion that you are the body, that you are the lord of all you survey, the center of the universe.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
