In Chapter 37 of The Nectar of Devotion, titled “Impetuses for Kṛṣṇa’s Service,” Śrīla Prabhupāda writes:

In the Vidagdha-mādhava there is the following statement: "When Kṛṣṇa was playing on His flute, Baladeva very anxiously declared, 'Just see how, after hearing the transcendental sound of Kṛṣṇa's flute, Indra, the King of heaven, is crying in his heavenly kingdom! And from his teardrops falling on the ground, Vṛndāvana appears to have become a celestial residence for the demigods.' "

Since Indra has 1,000 eyes it is difficult imagine how many tears of love were inundating the most sacred land of Vṛndāvana.

All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Charity in the mode of goodness is binding. For example, if I open a charity hospital giving free medical care to thousands of people my reward is that I will take birth after birth getting sick again and again so that all of those thousands can give free medical care to me.

Calamities are compared to dreams because, although they feel very real and intense while we are experiencing them, they are actually temporary and do not affect our eternal identity as the spirit-soul. Just as a dream seems real until we awaken, the सुख (happiness) and दुःख (distress) of material life arise and pass away within the body and mind, not the true self. From the higher understanding given in the Bhagavad-gita, the soul is eternal and untouched by these changing conditions, so wise persons see calamities as fleeting and ultimately insignificant—like dreams that disappear upon awakening to spiritual realization.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
