Honey Bee Gets Nectar from Flower

Are You a Honey Bee or a Fly?

Thought for Day--15 April 2026

The honey bee goes to a beautiful flower for a nectar. And the fly goes to garbage to feed on rotten decaying matter. In this connection this wonderful verse and purport in Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Ādi Lila, Chapter 8, Text 62:

vaiṣṇavera guṇa-grāhī, nā dekhaye doṣa
kāya-mano-vākye kare vaiṣṇava-santoṣa

He (Paṇḍita Haridāsa) always accepted the good qualities of Vaiṣṇavas and never found fault in them. He engaged his heart and soul only to satisfy the Vaiṣṇavas.

PURPORT
It is a qualification of a Vaiṣṇava that he is adoṣa-darśī: he never sees others’ faults. Of course, every human being has both good qualities and faults. Therefore it is said, saj-janā guṇam icchanti doṣam icchanti pāmarāḥ: everyone has a combination of faults and glories. But a Vaiṣṇava, a sober man, accepts only a man’s glories and not his faults, for flies seek sores whereas honeybees seek honey. Haridāsa Paṇḍita never found fault with a Vaiṣṇava but considered only his good qualities.

Adoṣa-darśī (अदोष-दर्शी) is understood in this way:

a- = not

doṣa = fault, defect

darśī = one who sees

So let us all be like honeybees instead of flies. Sometimes senior devotees are obliged to point out the faults of their juniors, and even equals may sometimes do this. This should not be done in a fault-finding mood; rather, it should be done in a mood of loving service.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
