The Proof of the Pudding is in the Eating

Pudding

How do I know that Krishna consciousness is bona fide? I am personally experiencing the validity of Kṛṣṇa bhakti because my life has been totally transformed by it since I first chanted Hare Kṛṣṇa in Denver, Colorado, USA, in the fall of 1968. I have been living in another dimension since then, no longer a slave of the norms of the material society. As it is said: the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Hare Krishna Srila Gurudev,
Please accept my humble obeisances.
All glories to Your Divine Grace and Srimati Gurumata.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
All glories to all devotees.

Dear Srila Gurudev, kindly enlighten me on the following.

One devotee said that some senior in her temple said that Your Divine Grace is very strict. So I was wondering—Your Divine Grace is teaching the basic things that Srila Prabhupada has asked us to do. If “As It Is” is considered to be strict, then I am very fortunate that from the very beginning of my Krishna consciousness I have been hearing Your Divine Grace and Srila Prabhupada.

So even though we should look forward to devotee association, should we also judge that even amongst senior devotees, which association I should be eager from and which devotees I should keep at a distance?

Thank you so much, Srila Gurudev.

Lila Manjari devi dasi

My Dear Lila Manjari,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

It’s nice that I am being recognized for my strictness. If someone finds fault with me for that, this means they do not properly understand what it means to become Krishna conscious. Since I am acting as an acarya on the order of Śrila Prabhupāda, it is my duty to be as strict as a thunderbolt and also as soft as a rose. In this connection, Śrīla Prabhupāda has written as follows in the Śrī Caitanya Caritāmṛta, Ādi Līlā, Chapter 12, Text 41:

Śrī Mukunda, a great friend and associate of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, used to visit many places where people were against the Vaiṣṇava cult. When Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu came to know of this, He punished Mukunda, forbidding him to see Him again. Although Caitanya Mahāprabhu was soft like a flower, He was also strict like a thunderbolt, and everyone was afraid to allow Mukunda to come again into the presence of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Mukunda, therefore, being very sorry, asked his friends whether he would one day be allowed to see Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. When the devotees brought this inquiry to Lord Caitanya, the Lord replied, “Mukunda will get permission to see Me after many millions of years.” When they gave this information to Mukunda, he danced with jubilation, and when Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu heard that Mukunda was so patiently waiting to meet Him after millions of years, He immediately asked him to return.

Regarding devotee association, I have repeatedly taught you all what I have learned from Śrīla Prabhupāda. We should take instructions from and take shelter of those who are more advanced in their realization of Krishna. Make friends with those who are equally advanced. And take pity upon and try to elevate those who are less advanced.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
