A Spiritual Take on a Stress Test

On July 13, we had a book table here in Austin at the Mind, Body, and Spirit Expo. It was a wonderful opportunity to share Krishna consciousness with the spiritually curious.

Two tables down from our table was a table offering free “stress tests.” Out of curiosity, I decided to give it a try.

They had me sit down and hold two metal cylinders while asking a series of questions — many quite personal. When they inquired about my own life, the machine showed zero stress. But when the questions turned to the state of the world, the stress indicator shot to the top.

That made me happy.

Why? Because Srila Prabhupada has taught us that we should be para-duḥkha-duḥkhī — distressed upon seeing the suffering of others.

Devotees need not worry about their own situation — because they’re sheltered by Krishna — but those who are truly Krishna conscious feel genuine compassion for those struggling in illusion. So, I was encouraged that the machine confirmed that I should have no stress about myself, but I should feel great distress to see a world in which everyone is suffering without Krishna consciousness

Srila Gurudeva, my mother would like to offer her humble obeisance at your lotus feet on the auspicious occasion of Gurupurnima (Disappearance day of Srila Sanatan Goswami as well), which was yesterday in India. I would like to inform you that my parents met both your graces in ISKCON Vrindavan in September 2018 during my initiation time and again my mother met your graces in March 2019 in ISKCON Mayapur.

At these meetings Srimati Gurumataji instructed my parents to chant Hare Krishna Mahamantra. Since then my mother has been chanting 4 rounds of Hare Krishna Mahamantra everyday and my father since last year has started chanting 7-8 rounds of Hare Krishna Mahamantra everyday. I request them to continue chanting. My mother says she is very grateful to Srimati Gurumataji as she has started chanting only because of her.

On the occasion of my initiation, my wonderful Godbrother HG Premananda Prabhu gifted me a photo of your grace and my mother everyday offers flowers unto your photo which is kept in the temple room. I seek blessings and guidance for my parents so that they can progress in Krishna consciousness.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
