This Is Our Mission
In a conversation between Vishnujana Swami and Srila Prabhupada on 20 June 1975 in Los Angeles here is what was said:Viṣṇujana: Śrīla Prabhupāda, what did Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura mean when he said, "I am going, my work unfinished"?
Prabhupāda: Hmm?
Viṣṇujana: When Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura stated that he was leaving this planet with his work unfinished.
Prabhupāda: Then let us finish. We are descendant of Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura. So he kept unfinished so that we shall get the chance to finish it. That is his mercy. He could have finished immediately. He is Vaiṣṇava; he is all-powerful. But he gave us chance that "You foolish people, you all also work." That is his mercy. So we should pray to Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura that "We are your grandchildren, great-grandchildren, so we have got some right to beg some mercy from you. The grandchildren get some indulgence from the grandfather. So I pray like that." It is Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura's mercy. A Vaiṣṇava can... Kṛṣṇa doesn't require anyone's help. Still, He is asking, "Surrender to Me." He doesn't require anyone's surrender. But it is for him good, one who surrenders. Not Kṛṣṇa is in need of anyone's service. He is complete. But He comes as if He is in helpless condition and asking for us to surrender. So that is for his good. One who is surrendered, he'll get the result. Kṛṣṇa is self-sufficient. Similarly, Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura is self-sufficient. But if he said that "I keeping unfinished," that means he gave us the chance, the opportunity. So we should always pray to Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura to be merciful upon us so that we can execute his unfinished task. That should be our... And never we should think that "What Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura could not finish, I have finished." [laughs] Don't think like that. It is not like that.
These great acharyas, Srila Prabhupada, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta, and Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur were all powerful enough to deliver all the the fallen souls of this material world back to home, back to Godhead. But out of kindness upon us they have passed on this glorious service to us. So now we must fully embrace this mission. But it is not that we should think that now we will accomplish what they were not able to do. Rather we should think that now we should act as instruments in their hands that now by their mercy they may now through us completely spiritualize this entire material world.
This understanding our "finishing it" is confirmed in confirmed in a letter that Srila Prabhupada wrote to Paramananda Das on 17 June, 1970 when Srila Prabhupada was in Los Angeles:
You have rightly observed that I am simply trying to execute the order of my Spiritual Master. Whatever is being done it is not on account of my intelligence or endeavor because I am simply an instrument in the hands of my Spiritual Master. I do not know how far I have got the capacity to carry His order, but I may say that I have a sincere desire to do it. This is Parampara system. If a student tries to satisfy his immediate Acarya or the Spiritual Master, that is the only qualification for advancing in Krsna consciousness. This is explained in the "Guruvastakam''—yasya prasadah bhagavata prasadao.
So now with this understanding, as instruments in the hands of the previous acharyas in the Brahma-Madhava-Gaudiya sampradaya, let us now finish the unfinished work by being perfect examples of Krishna consciousness and preaching with great determination, patience, and enthusiasm the message of Krishna to the entire world.

P.S. Now in the mood of the above instructions from Srila Prabhupada I am praying to him as follows:
My dear Srila Prabhupada, as your spiritual son I have some right to beg from you. As a powerful Vaisnava acharya you could have delivered all the fallen souls of this material world back to home, back to Godhead. But you have left this work undone so that instead of being lazy we, your followers, could step forward and embrace this world deliverance mission as our very life and soul. Therefore I am begging you that although you have planted the seeds of Krishna consciousness all over the world, still 99.999%of the world population is still engrossed in material consciousness. This I am begging your mercy, Srila Prabhupada, your divine blessings I can now deliver all of the fallen souls of this material world back to their original home in the spiritual world even if takes me many lifetimes to do so. I know that many thousands of devotees have also embraced this world deliverance mission as their life and soul. Therefore, my most beloved spiritual master and spiritual father, I am begging for your blessings that I may now be empowered to deliver all of those suffering souls that they have not been able to deliver.

Answer
From: Hong KongMy Dear Jenny,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to God.
It was my great pleasure to see your keen interest to know about the flower garland I was wearing. This was a gift of love from my disciples upon my departure from Johannesburg. I receive such a gift every time I depart from a city where my disciples live. Since I have disciples all over the world, my getting a garland happens often. I have travelled all the world for many, many years getting garland hundreds of times. Out of the many thousands of people who have seen me wearing a garland for many years you are the very first person who has ever inquired about it. This means that you are not an ordinary person. Your curiosity demonstrates that you are a special person who can receive transcendental knowledge of that world beyond our present world of birth and death.
I am very happy that you have written me. I am also happy that you blessed an airport cleaner with the sacred garland
after you wore it for some time.
I hope this meets you in the best of health.
Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
