Do Not Reject Your Spiritual Master

In the Srimad Bhagavata, 11th Canto, Chapter 3, Text 21 we find the following very potent instruction:

tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta
jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam
śābde pare ca niṣṇātaṁ
brahmaṇy upaśamāśrayam

"Therefore any person who seriously desires real happiness must seek a bona fide spiritual master and take shelter of him by initiation. The qualification of the bona fide guru is that he has realized the conclusions of the scriptures by deliberation and is able to convince others of these conclusions. Such great personalities, who have taken shelter of the Supreme Godhead, leaving aside all material considerations, should be understood to be bona fide spiritual masters."

Sometimes we hear in ISKCON the bogus philosophy that if a disciple likes another guru's mood better than the mood of the guru who initiated him that he can reject the guru who initiated him and accept a different guru whose mood he likes better. But this is completely against the Vedic culture. Srila Prabhupada clearly explains in a lecture he gave an Ahmedabad, India on 13 December 1972 there is no question of rejecting the guru who teaches Krishna consciousness. Such a person who rejects his initiating guru is no longer connected with the guru parampara and Krishna. He is instead drifting in the material energy.

However, if one mistakenly took initiation from a spiritual master who is not teaching the science of Krishna consciousness he must be rejected immediately.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
