The Beauty of Bhakti

Bhakti, giving your love to the Supreme, is simply amazing. Just as when you water the root of tree you automatically water all of its leaves and branches, similarly when you give your love to the Supreme that love is automatically distributed to all varieties of living beings throughout all of existence, even the animals, plants, and microbial germs. And because the more you give love the more you feel and experience love, there is nothing more exciting, more satisfying, more fulfilling, and more relishable than bhakti.

Question: What Does Spiritual Mean?

I just wanted to follow-up with you after meeting you last night. You mentioned the word "spiritual" a few times when you talked to me, and I find it to be an interesting word. You see, by profession, I am an engineer, and recognize that in our lifetimes, with the advent of computers, science has been developing exponentially. Many people even believe in scientism, which teaches that everything can be explained using the scientific method.

Is it possible you would be interested in explaining what "spiritual" means to you? Thank you very much in advance for your kind reply and no worries either way about telling me about "spiritual."

Sincerely yours,
Thom Kurtz

Answer: The Unchangeable Plane of Consciousness

Thom,

I’m surprised and delighted to hear from you!! Please feel to inquire from me unlimitedly until your scientific intelligence is fully satisfied.

You can understand the meaning of spiritual by scientifically psychologically analyzing yourself. In other words: What is the “I” that you experience at every minute as your factual self? When you were a little baby you experienced this “I.” As a toddler you experienced this “I.” Through every change of body you have experienced this same “I.” This is why we can remember things we did when we were much younger even though the body we have now is different.

So this “I” is a constant factor through so many changes of body. Scientifically speaking your body is experiencing a constant flow of chemicals in and out of it at every second. It never remains the same. So materially the body is constantly changing at every second. But spiritually you are always the same. So spiritual refers to that plane of consciousness which is unchangeable, while material refers to that plane where things are in constant flux.

So we can scientifically observe two planes: the material plane and the spiritual plane. The self is on the spiritual plane and the body is on the material plane. Consciousness exists on the spiritual plane and is non-existent on the material plane. There are no chemicals you can add to a dead body to make it conscious again because the spiritual self who was residing in the body has now gone away.

We can analyze our own psychology. Do we say “I hand,” or do we say “my hand”? We say, “my hand,” because we intuitively know that the body and the self and two distinct things. They are not the same.

So spirituality begins when you learn to trust you own intuition and abandon all forms of dogmatic thinking.
