What Makes a Guru Bona Fide?

If a guru’s only desire is to accumulate followers for name and fame, he is after a personality cult, and he is not a bona fide guru. The bona fide guru’s only desire is save as many people as possible from the sufferings of this material world. Therefore he compassionately preaches all over the world for saving as many people as possible from the cycle of birth and death without any interest whatsoever in name and fame.

The scriptures order us that we must worship our spiritual master. Therefore it is our spiritual master’s duty to teach us how to worship him and to encourage us to worship him. Some critics argue that the spiritual master is not bona fide if he teaches his disciples to worship him. But nothing could be further from the truth. It is his duty to teach his disciples how to faithfully follow the instructions given in the scriptures.

Thank you Srila Prabhupada for coming into this world for saving us. I am eternally indebted to you for all you have done for us suffering souls. Your greatest blessing to me will always remain of giving Srila Gurudeva as my spiritual master.

I had a very good fortune of being present at the ISKCON Austin ashram on the very auspicious day of Your appearance. While at the arati ceremony on Vyaspuja day, seeing Gurudeva and Gurumata engaged in such intense devotion and love towards serving you, I saw a spiritual family, with my Mother and Father serving our beloved Grandfather along with so many brothers and sisters. Please give blessings that I can join my spiritual master in serving You in the spiritual world just like we did yesterday with all fellow god-brothers and god-sisters, no matter how many births it needs to get there.

Please give me intelligence and enthusiasm to help serve my spiritual master's mission of opening new ISKCON Austin temple. I bow down repeatedly at your lotus feet. Please be merciful onto your devotee.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
