If You Are Not Tasting Unlimited Bliss at Every Moment

If you are not tasting unlimited bliss at every moment, you are doing something wrong because to be constantly relishing unlimited nectar is your natural constitutional position. This is why you need to take to the remedial process of sadhana bhakti, devotional service executed according to regulative principles, such as chanting the prescribed number of rounds every day and avoiding sinful activities. Some misinformed people think that one can immediately take to raga bhakti, spontaneous love of God, in which there are no regulative principles. But such so-called love of God is imitation. It is not real. This is like a sick man who tries to eat a normal diet before he has recovered from his severe illness. Such eating will simply keep him in a diseased state and may even kill him.

Question: Which Guru Should I Meditate On?

Who are we supposed to think of during the Gurvastakam prayers, the eight prayers glorifying the spiritual master that we sing every morning at mangala arati, the first worship ceremony of the day? Are we to think about Srila Prabhupada, our spiritual master, or both?

Answer: Your Guru Connects You With All the Gurus

In this connection Srila Prabhupada explains, "Actually, you have only one spiritual master, who initiates you, just as you have only one father.” So meditating on your spiritual master means meditating on that spiritual master who has initiated you. When you mediate on him you are following the order of Srila Prabhupada. Therefore when you connect with your initiating guru by meditation you are also automatically connecting with Srila Prabhupada by following his instruction. And through connecting with Srila Prabhupada you are also automatically connecting with his spiritual master, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, and all the predecessor gurus in our disciplic succession all the way up to Lord Sri Krishna Himself, the original spiritual master.
