Turning On the Self Within

At the present moment the entire world population is deluded by an external conception of the self, considering themselves to be their bodies. Nothing could be further from the truth. The real fact is that this body, like a garment, is simply a covering of the actual self that resides within. Therefore if people want genuine lasting happiness, which is never deterred or diminished by any situation no matter how seemingly unfortunate, they simply have to revive their original identity or consciousness, that they are eternal spiritual beings qualitatively one with the Supreme Person, the source of all existence. This requires not only theoretical understanding but also practical realization by engaging oneself fully in the loving devotional service of the Supreme Transcendence, Lord Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Question: Is Mixed Devotion Not Relishable?

Is it due to devotion to guru and Krishna mixed with material contamination or mundane desires that we are not able to fully surrender and relish the sweetness of Krishna consciousness?

Radha Ramana

Answer: Mixed Devotion is Commotion

Yes, devotion must be pure. Otherwise, you can't taste the nectar. It's like trying to enjoy some sweet rice that has been mixed with sand. Sweet rice by itself is very tasty and relishable. But if it is mixed with sand, it becomes unpalatable. Similarly, if devotion is mixed with material desires, it is not devotion. It is business, just like to make some material profit I may flatter someone to make a business deal with them. In this connection the Srimad Bhagavatam clearly states:

ahaituky apratihatā
yayātmā suprasīdati

"Devotional service must be unmotivated and uninterrupted in order to completely satisfy the self." SB 1.2.6

Therefore instead of cheating ourselves out of the nectar of Krishna consciousness, we should fully embrace pure devotional service to the Lord as our only activity and our only goal.
