Don't Remain a Fool

The highest perfectional stage of Krishna consciousness is easily attainable in the human form of life if one is fully surrendered to the bona fide spiritual master. However, if one holds himself back from full surrender due to material attachment, he will have great difficulty on the path of spiritual awakening. Therefore, while the unfortunate fools wallow in ignorance, those who are actually intelligent take full advantage of the mercy of the bona fide spiritual master and thus quickly and easily attain the topmost spiritual perfection of pure Krishna bhakti.

Question: How Long to Work Until Retirement?

Respected Sir,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Can you please let me know till how long a person is allowed to earn money for his living according to Vedic culture? Is there any age limit after which a person should stop earning and take his full time in Krishna bhakti? Thanks a lot for the clarifications Your Grace has provided me. Always at your feet.

Hare Krishna.
Thanks and regards,
Vasudevan K.

Answer: Up to the Age of 50 or As Soon As Possible Thereafter

The standard in Vedic culture is that the householder should earn money up until the age of 50 and then retire to take up full time devotional activities for the duration of his life. In the modern day "work until you drop dead" materialistic culture it will be difficult for most people to do this. For example in the USA, retirement benefits are not given by the government until the age of 65, and even then many find they still require to continue working to make ends meet. In conclusion, the best thing is to manage one's finances in such a way that one can retire at the age of 50 or as soon as possible thereafter.
