When Life Becomes Intolerable

Sometimes things become so difficult in this material world that we find it completely intolerable and wonder how we can continue to function in such an atmosphere. When we hit such a psychological rock bottom this is the ideal time to remember that this temporary material world is not our actual home, that we are instead residents of the eternal spiritual world who somehow or other foolishly relegated ourselves to this rotten place by our improper envy of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. We must now cast aside our ridiculous envy and rechannel our loving energy back to where it came from, back to where it belongs, to the beautiful, all-merciful Lord Sri Krishna. The fact is that we cannot live without love. We need to somebody to love who can perfectly and eternally reciprocate love with us. Krishna is that person. Therefore Krishna is that person whom we need to love.

Question: Did Prabhupada Sin By Crossing the Ocean?

Some of my illusioned friends question, "Didn't Srila Prabhupada commit a sin by crossing the ocean to go to America?" They mention that the Vedas say somewhere that crossing the ocean from India is a sin. So is it a sin? If so, did the great Acharya commit a sin?

Many thanks,

Answer: It's Sinful to Think He Was Sinful

The offense of crossing the sea is also known as "Samudrolanghana" or "Sagarollanghana". The Dharma Sutra of Baudhayana (II.1.2.2) lists sea voyages as first of the offences that cause the loss of varna. It's ironic that these very same people who dare to question Srila Prabhupada's crossing the ocean to deliver the world from chaos would not hesitate to cross the ocean to make money for their personal sense gratification. Such Vedic injunctions are for the benefit of such weak-minded men to protect them from being carried by material sense gratification. They don't apply to great acharyas like Srila Prabhupada who traverse the earth for delivering the suffering conditioned souls from the repetition of birth and death.
