Hare Krishna is Number One

Last Sunday evening (2 March 2014) local Austin musicians gathered here at a music venue to do a tribute program for Beatle George Harrison. The festival organizer contacted me and invited us to participate in the program. When I suggested that we could do a Hare Krishna kirtan he loved the idea. We were the opening number of the program, and when he introduced us to the audience he mentioned that George was very fond of kirtan and often participated in it. When at the end of the kirtan I gave thanks to George for making the Hare Krishna mantra a number one hit the entire audience delightfully roared with approval. We distributed many copies of the book Chant and Be Happy, which features a conversation with George Harrison about Krishna consciousness, as well as delicious prasadam cookies. It was so wonderful to see a completely materialistic atmosphere so wonderfully transformed by the power of the Hare Krishna mahamantra. When the chanting of this topmost of all mantras become a standard practice in every town, village, and home throughout the world it will be a new era of unparalleled happiness for all.

Question: Is Anyone Gambling?

Yesterday when I was telling my office colleague that gambling is prohibited for those who are on the pathway of self-realization he said, "Nowadays who is gambling? I don't think anyone is gambling." Then I thought that he was right. I also practically do not see anyone gambling. So why is this a regulative principle?

Thanks & Regards,
Radha Ramana

Answer: 51% of the World Population is Gambling

If you don't see that anyone is gambling, hear these statistics:

Currently about 51% of the world population takes part in some form of gambling every year. Gambling via the internet is becoming increasingly popular. The national Lotto in the UK is played by over 32 million people every week. During fiscal year 2012 U.S. lottery sales totaled $78 billion ($US) and Canadian sales reached $9.3 billion ($Can). So gambling is currently is extremely popular with the present day world population.
