Use Your Talent in Krishna's Service
17 April 2025
Srila Prabhupada said, "Everyone should use his talent for satisfaction of Krishna. That is perfection." Since Krishna blessed me with a talent for singing and songwriting I am using this talent for singing bhajans, singing in the kirtan, for and writing and singing songs. Srila Prabhupada said, "Generally the daughter receives the qualifications of her father, and the son acquires those of the mother." This is what happened in my case. My mother was a voice major in college. She could sing solos in our church filling the whole sanctuary with the beautiful sound of her voice without using a microphone. When she would finish her daily household chores she would sit and play the piano in our living room feeling great joy singing hymns in the glorification of God.(In the early sixties in America women did not go for working jobs. They were all stay-at-home moms. The husband's one income was sufficient for nicely maintaining the family.)
As described in my book, The Divine Love Memoir, on 7 May 1969 I did a set between two of the most famous rock bands of that era, The Grateful Dead and The Jefferson Airplane, at the Polo Fields concert in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The crowd of 30,000 roared with appreciation hearing me sing two of my songs and the emcee predicted by imminent fame.
It is Krishna's special mercy that He allows us to use our talents in His service. This is what Arjuna did.

Hare Krishna Gurudev,Please accept my humble obeisances, All glories to You, and Srila Prabhupada.
Guruji, is there a relation between consciousness and budhhi or intelligence?
Just like in species like plants, aquatics, birds, beasts, etc. We say that their consciousness is not that developed.
Can we say that species exhibit their consciousness according to their level of intelligence? Like humans is the most intelligent in earth, therefore we say that their consciousness is developed and vice-versa?
And that brings me to another question, that consciousness is originally pure, but it is covered. My question is that, Is consciousness level in lower species, limited to due to their intelligence? i.e if somehow those animals had similar amount of brain as human beings, could we have said that they had also enquired and thus could have developed their consciousness?
Please help this fallen servant of yours...

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.
Consciousness is the symptom of the soul, and intelligence is one of the three aspects of the subtle body which covers the soul.
You asked, "Can we say that species exhibit their consciousness according to their level of intelligence? "
No. It is other way around. Intelligence is present
according to what degree consciousness is awakened.
The same consciousness and intelligence is there in all living beings. There are simply different degrees of covering. In Krishna’s pure devotee they are completely uncovered.
Intelligence is separate from the physical brain because while the brain is part of the gross body intelligence of part of the subtle body.
I hope this meets you in the best of health
and in a cheerful mood.

My Spiritual Journey in a Nutshell
As an American youth I was taught to believe in the. "American dream": Study hard, get a good education and a good job to get a good wife some good kids in a good house to enjoy a good life. But when I got to college I realized that this was not enough. I wanted to know what is the meaning of life, but no one could tell me. So I took to the path of self-realization and was blessed in 1968 with the Hare Krishna mantra and the worship of Radha and Krishna. (I did not know about ISKCON.) This inspired me to drop out of college and renounce the world to become a holy beggar in India. But on the way to India I realized that to renounce everything I had to ultimately renounce renunciation itself and accept something transcendental Thus I embraced the mission of delivering the world from chaos. For this purpose I adopted the life a singer/songwriter who in 1969 became recognized and very much appreciated. In 1971, seeking spiritual perfection, I followed the example of Lord Jesus Christ and prayed to God how I could become His perfect servant. Then God revealed to me path of pure Krishna bhakti as taught by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami. On the most auspicious day of 12 August 1971 he accepted me as his disciple. Now on his order and under his most expert guidance I have fully devoted my life for awakening pure love of God within my heart and for making the entire world Krishna conscious. To read about my journey in detail get my memoir:
