Srila Prabhupada is My Loving Spiritual Father

when I first joined ISKCON I was encouraged to write Srila Prabhupada if I had any questions, and I would get a most wonderfully enlightening personal reply. But as the movement grew larger it was not practical in terms of time management for Srila Prabhupada to answer so many letters. So he established a policy that only the leaders should write him, not the rank and file disciples, of which I was one. But I felt a desperate need to get his personal guidance so I took a chance and violated the policy by writing him anyway. In his reply to my letter he reminded me of the new policy but most mercifully gave me a concession to the new policy in a personal letter from Los Angeles dated 13 June 1972: "Of course, if there is some very urgent matter, I am always happy to hear from my beloved disciples." So as long as I felt the desperate need I wrote him and got the most wonderful personal loving guidance. But when that need passed I no longer wrote him. I was then fully satisfied to get his personal association by reading his books and hearing his lectures.

And that is the wonderful personal association I am still getting from him now even a half a century later.

Question: What to Do with My Life

I feel guilty. Krishna says in the Bhagavad-gita 7:11 (about illicit sex). I am a 24 years old student preparing for competitive exams. I am not physically connected with any woman, but I still masturbate sometimes. Every time I feel guilty because Lord Krishna says that it is sinful. But then after some days I again do it. It is a big problem. How to conquer this?

Another problem is I want to talk with a girl who was in our graduation time in our college. Actually it is totally one sided. I am very attached to her. Please advise me. I am very depressed. Despite knowing that one sided attraction is nonsense, still sometimes I follow her and want to see her when she goes to market or any other public place, I am afraid to reveal my feelings to her my feelings because I have a great fear that she will reject me and I will be totally devastated.

Please guide me what to do with my life.

Answer: Put Krishna in the Center

From: ISKCON Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Struggling Soul,

Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Masturbation shortens your life span and depletes your memory. So the little thrill it gives you is not worth it. So tell Mr. Masturbation to get out of your life and never come back again.

Stop running after girls. You should first run after Krishna instead. And I will help you. First become a first class totally sold out devotee of Krishna and then He will give you a fantastic wife as your life's companion.

Are you ready to follow my instructions and achieve the spiritual world?
Or do you want to totally ruin your human form of life by remaining attached to sense gratification and become an animal in your next birth?

The choice is yours. I hope that there is a little bit of brain left after all of that masturbation so that you will make the right choice.

I hope this meets you in the best of health.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari
