Krishna Consciousness is Much Better than Sex

Sex pleasure is nothing more than the stimulation of a temporary bodily organ. It has nothing to do with the actual self who is situated within the vehicle of the temporary material body. Therefore one who has learned the art of reviving the loving feelings of the actual self within relishes a pleasure millions and billions of times greater than any pleasure experienced by the temporary bodily covering.

This difference is practically experienced by those who previously indulged in sex pleasure but have now given it up having taste the superior pleasure of Krishna consciousness. In this connection there is the notable example of Śrī Yāmunācārya Albandaru of South India who had formerly been a great king and had enjoyed sexual happiness in various ways. Since he later engaged himself in the service of Lord Krishna he enjoyed a far superior spiritual bliss and hated to even think of sex life. If sexual thoughts came to him, he would spit with disgust:

yad-avadhi mama cetaḥ kṛṣṇa-pādāravinde
nava-nava-rasa-dhāmany udyataṁ rantum āsīt
tad-avadhi bata nārī-saṅgame smaryamāne
bhavati mukha-vikāraḥ suṣṭhu niṣṭhīvanaṁ ca

"Since I have been engaged in the transcendental loving service of Krishna, realizing ever-new pleasure in Him, whenever I think of sex pleasure, I spit at the thought, and my lips curl with distaste."

So if any of you, my readers, are fascinated by sex pleasure thinking it to be a very wonderful thing, I challenge you to dive deeply into the taste of Lord Sri Krishna's holy names. If you do so, you will realize that a sexual orgasm is nothing more than a disturbance for one who is relishing unlimited ecstasy by chanting the Hare Krishna mantra.

Question: What if a Couple Has Sex Once a Week?

You have said about having sex only once in a month. But this thing is known only to a few people in this world. Other married couples don't know about this. What if a couple has sex more than once in a month? What if they have once in a week?

 

I have also seen that this once-in-a-month sex is not followed by many. Even many Vaishnavas don't know about this. What about the Vaishnava couples who don't know about this and have sex more than once in a month because as far as I know, the majority of the Vaishnavas don't know about this and don't follow this as well?

Srila Prabhupada explains in his purport to Srimad Bhagavatam, Fourth Canto, Chapter 27, Text 5:

 

"According to religious injunctions a man is restricted to enjoy sex only once in a month, after the menstrual period of the wife, and if the wife is pregnant, he is not allowed sex life at all. That is the law for human beings."

 

Since this is the law for human beings anyone who knowingly or unknowingly does not follow this law is not a human being. If they are in a human body, but do not follow this law, instead of being a human they are a two-legged animal. Such persons who are over-indulging in sex will become animals in their births so that they can get better facility for sex enjoyment. 

 

Therefore out of kindness on these poor ignorant souls who are on their way to the animal kingdom we want to enlighten them how to taste the higher pleasure of Krishna's names, which is thousands of times greater than sex pleasure. Once they get this higher taste they can easily regulate their sex indulgence according to religious principles and qualify themselves to go back to their original home in the spiritual world at the time of death.

 

An innocent child may not know that the fire will burn him, but he will still burn his hand when he touches the fire. Ignorance is no excuse. Thus our mission is to give proper education to all Vaisnavas all over the world so that they can become qualified to go back to Home, back to Godhead after

leaving their present material bodies.
