How to Attain that State Beyond All Miseries

If we want to take proper advantage of this human form of life by rising above the animal platform through the process of spiritual awakening, the Vedic injunctions are there to guide us how to do so. Those who are fortunate and intelligent take advantage of these instructions to attain that platform of consciousness which is completely beyond all the miseries of this material existence. On that plane one experiences unlimited happiness even while his body is experiencing the miseries of old age, disease, and death. For such a person even Coronavirus would not be a disturbance.

In this connection the topmost spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada, explains as follows:

"The Vedas give the direction:

tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet
[Mundaka Upanisad 1.2.12]

'In order to reach the perfection of life or to understand the real constitutional position of the living entity, one must approach the spiritual master.'

Gurum evābhigacchet—one must; it is not optional. It is imperative that one approach the spiritual master, for by such association one proportionately develops his consciousness toward the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The highest perfection of such consciousness is called Kṛṣṇa consciousness."

So if one wants to become 100% awakened, he or she must become 100% surrendered to the bona fide spiritual master. 50% surrender only brings 50% awakening.

We require a guru because the supreme authority, Lord Sri Krishna, orders us to do so in the Bhagavad-gita, Chapter 4, Text 34:

tad viddhi praṇipātena
paripraśnena sevayā
upadekṣyanti te jñānaṁ
jñāninas tattva-darśinaḥ

"Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth."

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here.
