It's Time Now to Get Out of Maya
It's time now to get out of maya or illusion. For thousands and millions of lifetimes we have been misidentifying with matter futilely trying to enjoy in that place where no factual enjoyment exists. Thus we have foolishly maintained our suffering situation in the cycle of birth and death. So it's high time that we become now a little intelligent and stop this unnecessary punishment of ourselves. It's time now to reward ourselves by total complete surrender to Lord Sri Krishna through the transparent via medium who purely represents him, the bona fide spiritual master.
Please accept my humble obeisances.
My question is: With what speed should we chant our rounds? Fast or slow?
Your servant,
R.K.
My Dear R.K.,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Regarding how to chant japa, Srila Prabhupada as instructed us as follows in the Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 17, Verse 32 purport:
"One should note in this connection that chanting involves the activities of the upper and lower lips as well as the tongue. All three must be engaged in chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra. The words "Hare Krishna" should be very distinctly pronounced and heard. Sometimes one mechanically produces a hissing sound instead of chanting with the proper
pronunciation with the help of the lips and tongue. Chanting is very simple, but one must practice it seriously."
So speed is not the issue. Chanting and hearing each syllable distinctly is what counts.
I hope this meets you in the best of health and in an ecstatic mood.
