Second Appeal--Urgent Need in Puerto Rico
My dear Readers,
We got a good result from our first appeal. We now have $2,500 to send to ISKCON Puerto Rico. But they need much more help to rebuild their temple. Dear Vaisnavas Worldwide, Members, Friends and Supporters of ISKCON and the Hare Krsna Movement,
Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
This is your servant, Virabahu Dasa, a representative of ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission for areas in South America and the Caribbean, in particular for the Island of Puerto Rico.
In the month of September of 2017, there was major devastation caused in the Caribbean Sea by several hurricanes of unimaginable strength, one after the other in close succession.
Puerto Rico was hit the hardest by the last deadliest one of the season,
Maria, which caused extensive destruction. As some of many consequences, even the most basic services were disrupted for days on end, adding to the many risks of life-threatening dangers that can easily manifest after catastrophes of this nature.
ISKCON’s Sri-Sri Radha-Krsna main temple in the Caribbean, up in the Gurabo hills of Puerto Rico, was not spared; it is also the abode of Sri-Sri
Krsna-Balarama, Sri-Sri Gaura-Nitai, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura and Srila Prabhupada. And, in the city, our Hare Krsna Restaurant and the newly inaugurated Preaching Center were also not spared.
Arisudana Prabhu, the Temple President, succinctly had this to say:
¨Water was pouring even through the keyholes; the windows were shaking violently, and all the commotion of the destruction went on for more than twenty-four hours. It took us an entire day to clear the path to reach the temple; actually, what was left of the temple.
¨And what was left of it was the cause of shock, anguish and much sorrow. The temple is destroyed. Everything that for so many years we had kept and nicely maintained with "blood, sweat and tears" as a beautiful offering to Srila Prabhupada and Their Lordships, everything has been destroyed. Everything.
¨This is a small community and of reduced means. We can´t expect to rebuild and restore the temple to its previous splendor all by ourselves. We are going to need the help of our family, our greater Vaisnava family. I am hereby asking , imploring, please help us . Your contribution is crucial.
