How to Develop a Taste for the Holy Name

Lord Caitanya has taught us that if we want to unlimitedly relish the sweet nectar of Krishna's holy name, all we have to do is become completely humble, considering ourselves to be lower than the straw in the street. The difficulty is that we are very proud, considering ourselves to be very great. This is why we not able to fully relish the nectar of Krishna's holy name. So how do we become free from this false pride and attain true humility? The answer is given by the great spiritual master, Srila Narottam Das Thakur, who has advised us to always worship the spiritual master and the Vaisnavas. In other words the more that can be in the mood of serving the spiritual master and the devotees, the more we will be able to relish the ecstasy of chanting Hare Krishna.

Question: How Can So Much Suffering Exist?

All Glories to Srila Prabhupada,

I was in a discussion with a colleague. He was formerly in the army and so has seen very rough things. I told him that things happen based on our past karma and that is why we suffer, but he does not believe it. He says if God existed, he would not have allowed the kind of suffering he witnessed. How do I present him the truth?

Also, he was saying how can we humans have existed millions of years ago as described in Vedas when the scientists have concluded that we have only been around for 100,000 years.

Answer: We Are Simply Reaping the Fruit of Our Actions

If we disobey the laws of the state we are punished by government. Even in the laws of physics, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. So it is not all surprising that if we disobey the laws of God that we will get a reaction. This is a simple matter of common sense.

The scientists are blindly locked into their modern day theory of evolution. If they encounter any evidence which does not fit into their theory, they simply reject it. Therefore they are not real scientists. They are dogmatists. We have historical evidence which proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that human society goes back for at least two million years.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments.
