Disappearance Day of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati

Today is the disappearance day of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur, the spiritual master of our most beloved Srila Prabhuapda. Of course, it is not that he is dead and gone. In this connection the words of Bhaktivinode Thakur are very poignant:

"He reasons ill who tells that Vaisnavas die, when thou art living still in sound. The Vaisnavas die to live, and living try to spread the holy name around."

These great personalities live forever and continually bestow their blessings upon all those who are always trying to awaken the love of God within their hearts and within the hearts of all. So let us always worship these great personalities continually begging that they bestow their merciful blessings upon us.

Artist's Concept of ISKCON Austin Project

Answers by Citing the Vedic Version

Question: Why Hare Krishna Is Mahamantra?

Why is the Hare Krishna mantra called as mahamantra by ISKCON? Some Hindu brahmanas say there is no such thing as mahamantra but only mantra.

Kindly enlighten.

Your insignificant servant,

Harish

Answer: It's the Topmost of All Mantras

The Hare Krishna mantra is called the mahamantra because it is the most spiritually powerful of all mantras. There is no mantra that has more potency to deliver the fallen, conditioned soul back to his original position in the spiritual sky. Mahamantra literally means "the great chant for deliverance," and it is specifically called the mahamantra in the revealed scriptures. Also, this verse from the Kali-Santarana Upanishad explains why the Hare Krishna mahamantra is the greatest of mantras:

hare kṛṣṇa hare kṛṣṇa
kṛṣṇa kṛṣṇa hare hare
hare rāma hare rāma
rāma rāma hare hare

iti ṣoḍaśakaṁ nāmnāṁ
kali-kalmaṣa-nāśanaṁ
nātaḥ parataropāyaḥ
sarva-vedeṣu dṛśyate

“These sixteen names composed of thirty-two syllables are the only means to counteract the evil effects of Kali-yuga. In all the Vedas it is seen that to cross the ocean of nescience there is no alternative to the chanting of Hare Krishna."

Any brahmana who does not accept the authority of the revealed scriptures is not an actual brahmana. He is a pseudo brahmana. Also, Hindu brahmana means that he is not a real a brahmana. Brahmana means one who realizes Brahman, the Absolute Truth. One who has realized the Absolute Truth is situated beyond bodily distinctions such as Hindu, Muslim, Christian, etc. Anyone who continues to identify on the bodily platform is not a brahmana, someone who has realized the Absolute Truth. Srila Prabhupada has trained his disciples how to become actual brahmanas, not the rascal so-called brahmanas who call them brahmanas and then engage themselves in material sense gratification.
