Counterfeit Money, Counterfeit Gurus
Just as counterfeit money indicates the presence of real money, in a similar way counterfeit gurus indicate the presence of real gurus. In other words, you can't have a fake version of something unless there is real version of that thing. One avoids counterfeit money and only uses real money. In the same way, one avoids counterfeit gurus and takes advantage of those who can honestly teach him something.
We cannot deny the necessity of having a teacher or a guru. How did we learn to speak and do so many things? We learned from our parents who were our first gurus. Similarly, anyone who teaches us what we do not know is our guru. If one categorically states that there is no such thing as a guru, he is contradicting himself because he is taking the position of guru to state that there is no such thing as a guru. Therefore the bona fide guru must exist, and the ultimate guru is the one who one teaches us life's ultimate lesson of how to escape the cycle of birth and death and go back to home, back to Godhead.

Question: Category of Non-Devotee Vedic Followers?
I have some confusion while reading Bhagavad-gita 7.15 and 7.16 about duskrtinah (the miscreants) and sukrtinah (the pious). The first verse highlights the miscreants and second describes the pious, the devotees. My confusion is this: In what category are the followers of the Vedas and the demigod worshippers who are not Krishna conscious?Your humble follower,
Santosh Suvarna
Answer: Krishna Categorizes Them as Miscreants
Krishna clearly states in Bhagavad-gita 7.15-16 that those who surrender to him are pious and that those who do not surrender unto Him are miscreants. He also states in Bhagavad-gita 15.15 that the Vedas are meant to bring one to the point of surrendering to Him. Those do not understand the ultimate goal of the Vedas and misuse the Vedic wisdom for their own selfish purposes and thus do not surrender to Krishna are counted by Krishna amongst the miscreants.Sankarshan Das Adhikari
