Question: How to Be a Good Devotee and a Good Wife?

Dear Master,

I would like to know about Krishna conscious family life. I am a woman from a Christian background. I cannot live alone in the society. I hope you understand. I am not interested in marriage because I simply want to serve the Lord. However, my parents are pushing me to get married. Please, therefore, advise me how to be a good Krishna conscious devotee as well as a good wife to my husband so that in all ways I can nicely serve my beloved Lord, Sri Krishna.

Answer: Serve Guru and Husband

Because women are unfortunately objects of exploitation in this demoniac world society, it is better that a woman is protected by a loving husband. But if she is married to man who is not Krishna conscious, it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for her to become Krishna conscious. Therefore she should marry a man who is a devotee of Lord Sri Krishna. In this way her pathway to liberation will be wide open. Being a good wife means to always serve her husband by helping him be Krishna conscious. And being a good devotee means to take shelter of a bona fide spiritual master, take initiation from him, and always faithfully follow his instructions.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me. I had so many wonderful Krishna conscious experiences in their association that I can hardly begin to describe them here. But at least may it suffice for me to say for now that Gayatri taught me what it means to be a soft-hearted devotee of the Lord and she gave me my first cooking lesson, teaching me how to make cauliflower pakoras, and Amarendra taught me the art of how to preach strongly, intelligently, and coolly to defeat opposing arguments.
