Today is Srila Prabhupada's Appearance Day

August 17 2025

After a super ecstatic Janmastami celebration yesterday honoring the most auspicious appearance of Lord Sri Krishna, today we are celebrating the appearance of our most beloved ISKCON Founder:Acharya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Srila Prabhupada has ordered us to deliver the world and has also said that he will deliver the world through us. So how can both of these true? This is always the Vaisnava system. The devotee fully embraces the order of his spiritual as his very life and soul, but he takes zero credit for whatever he accomplishes. giving all credit to his spiritual master.

So to whatever extent the world becomes delivered by our preaching all the credit goes to Srila Prabhupada. Our position is simply to become his empowered agents. If we do this 100% we are also considered to be deliverers of the world. In this mood of wanting to become a fully empowered in instrument in Srila Prabhupada's hands I have written this Vyasa Puja homage to him for his 2025 Vyas Pujam celebration:

My dear Srila Prabhupada, please accept my humble obeisances in the dust of your most divine lotus feet. Words can never be enough to reciprocate with the unlimited mercy that you’re giving to me and all the fallen souls in this material existence at every minute. But it is my duty to try. So, I will do so.

In 1971 you so mercifully accepted me as your disciple on August 12 with a letter from London. You gave me the name Sankarshan Das. I wrote you back after that initiation expressing my desire to push forward this sankirtana movement. You very mercifully reciprocated with my desire by writing me back from London on 7 September 1971:

“I can see also that you are a very sincere and enthusiastic boy and are anxious for spreading this movement. Those are first-class qualifications for making advancement in Krishna Consciousness. So, continue enthusiastically as you are doing and Krishna will surely bless you.”

So, my most dear Srila Prabhupada, I feel very much inspired to embrace this order, accepting it as my very life and soul, to always be enthusiastic for pushing forward this Krishna consciousness movement for the deliverance of all the fallen souls in this material world, in spite of all the ups and downs that we experience on a regular daily basis. My heart is very much troubled to see the fallen souls suffering like anything, caught up here in this material world in the cycle of birth and death. I very much appreciate the mood of Prahlada Maharaj who said he does not want to go back to home, back to Godhead unless he can take all these fallen souls with him. So, Srila Prabhupada, following in his footsteps, this is also my mood—to stay here in the cycle of birth and death until all the fallen souls of this material world can be delivered back home.

In this connection I am very encouraged by this verse that you have quoted in your writing:

janmāntara-sahasreṣu yasya syād buddhir īdṛśī
dāso ’haṁ vāsudevasya sarvān lokān samuddharet

“A person who considers himself the eternal servant of the Personality of Godhead Vasudeva (a conception that is achieved after thousands and thousands of births) can deliver all the fallen souls in material existence.”

Since you ordered us to deliver the world, I know that desiring that this will happen and fully dedicating our lives for this purpose will please you very much. I also know that within the order of the spiritual master exists the empowerment to successfully carry out that order. Thus , I am begging you, Srila Prabhupada, to bless me that I can fully embrace your world-deliverance order, accepting it as my very life and soul.

Delivering all the fallen souls of this material world back to home, back to Godhead certainly seems like a completely impossible task. But as you told us, “Impossible is a word in a fool’s dictionary.” So, I’m begging you that although I am completely unqualified, you bless me that I can now become fully empowered to deliver all the fallen souls of this material world back to home, back to Godhead as an instrument in your hands.

Material individuality is due to the temporary material body, which is here today and gone tomorrow. But spiritual individuality is due to the unchanging identity we all have as the eternal servants of Krishna.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee.
