Srila Prabhupada teaches us very nicely in his book Dharma, the Way of Transcendence as follows:

When we are no longer cats and dogs but are human beings, we can understand, "I am not this body; I am a spirit soul." Therefore the Vedānta-sūtra says, athāto brahma jijñāsā: "Having achieved the human form of life, one should inquire into the Absolute Truth." The human body is achieved after transmigrating for many, many years through up to eight million lower forms of life. Therefore this life should not be spoiled by living like cats and dogs—simply eating, sleeping, defending, and engaging in sexual intercourse. These bodily demands are common to both animals and human beings. But what is the special facility of human life? The human being is eligible to understand what is the value of life, what are the problems of life, and how to make a solution to those problems. That is human life, not simply passing our days like cats and dogs, working very hard to satisfy our bodily demands.

Therefore let us now take full advantage of the human form that we have attained after millions and millions of lifetimes and make our lives successful by fully surrendering ourselves to Lord Krishna.

Dear Sir, I have read your book, The Divine Love Memoir. I have a married life, two kids, and my mother is on a wheelchair. Being in the grip of Maya, I can’t be Krishna conscious fully. I want to leave this and become Krishna conscious like you, but you are lucky that you left your home at an early age. I cannot leave my home. What should I do?

I am very happy that you read my book, The Divine Love Memoir.

You do not have to leave your home to become fully Krishna conscious. Srila Prabhupada has taught that Krishna consciousness is not dependent on physical location, but on the sincerity of our heart and our willingness to engage whatever situation we are in for Krishna’s pleasure.

Your service to your wife, children, and mother can become pure devotional service if you do it with the understanding that they are souls entrusted to your care by Krishna. By caring for them and guiding them toward Krishna, you are serving Him directly.

Some practical steps you can begin right now:

Chant Hare Krishna daily — set a fixed number of rounds and keep it as your sacred vow.

Read or hear Krishna’s teachings daily — even a small portion of Bhagavad-gita or Srimad-Bhagavatam.

Offer your food to Krishna — then honor prasadam together with your family.

Make your home a temple — have a picture or Deity of Krishna and offer flowers, incense, and prayers daily.

Associate with devotees — join temple programs or online satsanga when possible.

If you practice steadily, Maya will lose her grip, and your home can become as pure as an ashram. Krishna sees your effort and will help you advance quickly if you keep your desire strong. The greatest good fortune is to have the desire you already have — to dedicate your life to Him.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee.
