Do Not Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth

There is a popular saying, "Do not look a gift horse in mouth." There are different ways to understand its meaning. A Krishna conscious way of understanding it is to not let the golden opportunity of this human form pass away without taking full advantage of it. In other words we must use it to cultivate our Krishna consciousness.

Here is an example of this given by Srila Prabhupada in The Nectar of Devotion:

There are many songs about the Lord's activities. For example, there is the Brahma-saṁhitā, sung by Lord Brahmā; Nārada Pañcarātra, sung by Nārada Muni; and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, sung by Śukadeva Gosvāmī. If these songs are heard by any person, he can easily get out of the clutches of material contamination. There should be no difficulty in hearing these songs of God. They are coming down from many, many millions of years ago, and people are still taking advantage of them. So why, at this time, should one not take full advantage and thus become liberated?

So let us now take full advantage of the mercy of Srila Prabhupada and the great Vaisnava acharyas and become liberated. Let us not "look gift horse in the mouth."

When I work on the computer at school, I feel stressed and unmotivated. There is a large amount of work to complete in a short span of time. I work together with my mother and wife at the school, but if I do not perform my duties properly, they and the other staff members will scold me. What should I do? Krishna’s devotees are the best in everything.

Heart Melting Reunion with Amarendra and Gayatri

On Friday 26 June 2015 I was blessed with the greatest good fortune of meeting with two of the dearest devotees of my entire life, His Grace Amarendra Prabhu and his good wife, Srimati Gayatri devi dasi. I am eternally indebted to these great souls for how much they helped me in my spiritual life when I was a young devotee. When I was young brahmacari monk in 1973 I joined with the two of them in Gainesville, Florida. We were a three person preaching center, and they were just like a mother and father to me.
