How to See Inaction in Action and Action in Inaction

August 29 2025

In Bhagavad-gita 4.18 we find this verse:

karmaṇy akarma yaḥ paśyed
akarmaṇi ca karma yaḥ
sa buddhimān manuṣyeṣu
sa yuktaḥ kṛtsna-karma-kṛt

One who sees inaction in action, and action in inaction, is intelligent among men, and he is in the transcendental position, although engaged in all sorts of activities.

This means those that who act in Krishna consciousness, in terms of karma, are inactive because they do not get any karmic reaction no matter they do. But those who try to practice inactivity by going to meditate in the mountains are still active, in terms of their karma, because they kill so many germs by their natural bodily functions.

How to be consistent?

Answer

From: Austin, Texas USA

My Dear Devotee,
Please accept my blessings.
All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda.

Consistency is what transforms inspiration into results. Here’s a structured way to think about it:
1. Start With a Clear “Why”
Ask yourself: Why does this matter to me?
When your “why” is strong i.e.service to Krishna, your motivation doesn’t fade when enthusiasm wavers.
Example: Chanting becomes consistent when you see it as a lifeline of connection, not just a duty.
2. Break It Into Small, Non-Negotiable Actions
Make it easy and automatic.
Instead of “I’ll chant for 2 hours every day,” start with “I’ll chant at least one round daily no matter what.”
Instead of “I’ll chant my rounds perfectly,” start with “I’ll never skip a single day—even if chant imperfectly still I will do some chanting.”
3. Anchor Consistency to Routines
Attach the habit to something you already do:
After getting up → chant one round.
After breakfast → chant another round.
Before bed → read a verse from the Bhagavad-gita.
This makes consistency less about willpower, more about rhythm.
4. Track and Celebrate
Keep a simple log or journal: to mark your consisitency.
Seeing progress builds momentum.
Reward yourself with acknowledgment: “I kept my word to myself today.”
5. Expect Waves, Not Perfection
Some days you’ll feel inspired, some days not. Consistency is built when you stick to your routine anyway, no matter what.
Krishna says: “In this endeavor, there is no loss or diminution” (BG 2.40). So, every step counts.
6. Make It Sacred
If you link consistency to love and devotion to please Krishna, it stops being a burden.
“I practice daily because it’s my offering of love to Krishna, my way to grow, and my way to give myself to Him.”
Bottom line:
Consistency comes from:
A strong “why”
Very small, repeatable actions
Anchoring to routines
Tracking and forgiving yourself while staying steady
Making it a sacred offering
I am praying to Krishna that this advice will help you to be consistent in loving service to Him.

I hope this meets you in the best of health and in a cheerful mood.

Your ever well-wisher,
Sankarshan Das Adhikari

How I Came to Krishna Consciousness

In a world obsessed with money, fame, and fleeting pleasures—leading nowhere but to the grave or the crematorium—I walked away. Life felt so meaningless, I couldn’t stand it. This is the true story of how I turned my back on the American materialistic dream and discovered something far greater: Krishna consciousness. A gripping journey of inner revolution and a call to awaken a world civilization on the edge of collapse.
