Srila Prabhupada's Books Will Save the World
4 May 2025
In a Srimad Bhagavatam class given on January 5, 1974 in Los Angeles Srila Prabhupada stressed the importance of distributing his books. Here what he said:These are the Bhāgavata. There is no comparison. There is no literature throughout the universe like Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. There is no comparison. There is no competition. Every word is for the good of the human society. Every word, each and every word. Therefore, we stress so much in the book distribution. Somehow or other, if the book goes in one's hand, he will be benefited. At least he will see, "Oh, they have taken so much price. Let me see what is there." If he reads one śloka, his life will be success. If he reads one śloka, one word. This is such nice things. Therefore we are stressing so much, "Please distribute book, distribute book, distribute book." A greater mṛdaṅga. We are chanting, playing our mṛdaṅga. It is heard within this room or little more. But this mṛdaṅga will go home to home, country to country, community to community, this mṛdaṅga.
Therefore we must all take advantage of every available opportunity to distribute Srila Prabhupada's books. This will bestow the greatest benefit upon us and the greatest benefit upon the suffering global society.

Book Distribution Experience & Realization Glimpse on 29th April 2025
Yesterday, we had initially planned to go for book distribution at a different location, but Krishna had other plans for us. Eventually, we decided to do it at Janipur. Since it was Tuesday, we desired to distribute books under the blessings of Sri Hanuman at His temple. However, we knew that space there was limited, and it might be difficult to convince shopkeepers to allow us to set up in front of their shops. But when we reached there, to our surprise, the adjoining shop was closed that day! We got the spot and took permission from another shopkeeper nearby—because it’s always good to keep everyone in confidence.
Once we installed the stall, another devotee named Advocate Aanchal joined us for book distribution. A few people came to get the books, but most ignored us, and some greeted us from afar. One middle-aged lady came, interested in getting the Bhagavad-gītā, but she had no money. She was going through struggles in her life, especially in her relationship with her husband. Despite having no funds, she seemed genuinely eager to receive the Gītā. As one of our dear devotees had earlier given us 15 Bhagavad-gītās to distribute freely, we gave her a copy without taking any donation. No doubt, this felt deeply fulfilling and joyful.
But the story didn’t end there. Around 15–20 youths came and received Srila Prabhupāda’s small books like Chant and Be Happy, Rāja-Vidyā, The Hare Krishna Challenge, etc. Some donated less, some gave extra. But whoever came to our stall—we tried our best to offer them at least one book.
Most of the time, people eagerly approach to buy spiritual items that we sell, but they’re usually hesitant when it comes to books. I always try to lovingly insist and request them to take a book too. They don’t realize that this transcendental knowledge is far more important and nourishing for the soul.
We also approached a daily-wage laborer who wanted to take a Bhagavad-gītā, but again he said he couldn’t afford it. I told him we would accept whatever donation he could give. Happily, he donated ₹200 and took the book. It was truly inspiring to witness such sincerity and devotion.
Another sweet devotee Mataji who is in touch with me came to visit us at the stall and lovingly brought Lahori Jeera soft drink and chips. We accepted the soft drink with gratitude—especially as it’s one we like—but we had to politely decline the chips, as we refrain from eating outside food, and those contained onion and garlic. She was innocent and unaware, but we deeply appreciated her thoughtful gesture.
Another devotee Prabhuji, also a member of ISKCON Jammu, came to meet us and offered a generous donation of ₹500. He told me, “Prabhuji, as you go for book distribution in your car, please use this for fuel expenses.” These small reciprocations truly win our hearts and inspire us to dedicate our lives more sincerely to the service of devotees.
Day before yesterday, we also had the blessed opportunity to distribute books at another holy place—Kol Kandoli Mata Mandir. It felt very pious to distribute books at such a spiritually surcharged location. One devotee, Prerna Mataji, helped by speaking with the temple management, and they gave us permission to set up our stall there. Not only that, she also bought some spiritual items from us and offered them to the temple Deity, saying they should be offered to Mata Rani. All these incidents show that Krishna just wants us to be the medium—He has already arranged everything for the distribution of His books.
In two days, by the mercy of the Lord and His devotees, we were able to distribute 70+ books. We humbly request all the devotees here to please pray for more success. These numbers are still very small—we wish to take this service to a massive level with your grace heartfelt blessings.

My Spiritual Journey in a Nutshell
As an American youth I was taught to believe in the. "American dream": Study hard, get a good education and a good job to get a good wife some good kids in a good house to enjoy a good life. But when I got to college, I realized that this was not enough. I wanted to know what the meaning of life is, but no one could tell me. So, I took to the path of self-realization and was blessed in 1968 with the Hare Krishna mantra and the worship of Radha and Krishna. (I did not know about ISKCON.) This inspired me to drop out of college and renounce the world to become a holy beggar in India. But on the way to India, I realized that to renounce everything I had to ultimately renounce renunciation itself and accept something transcendental Thus I embraced the mission of delivering the world from chaos. For this purpose, I adopted the life a singer/songwriter who in 1969 became recognized and very much appreciated. In 1971, seeking spiritual perfection, I followed the example of Lord Jesus Christ and prayed to God how I could become His perfect servant. Then God revealed to me path of pure Krishna bhakti as taught by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami. On the most auspicious day of 12 August 1971, he accepted me as his disciple. Now on his order and under his most expert guidance I have fully devoted my life for awakening pure love of God within my heart and for making the entire world Krishna conscious. To read about my journey in detail get my memoir:
